Income Tax department on Friday launched raids in offices and other premises of several builders in Gurugram and other cities, a department official said. The I-T department is conducting searches at 28 places belonging to builders accused of tax evasion, the official said. Apart from Gurugram, the raids were conducted in Chandigarh, Karnal, Delhi, Ludhiana and Rewari, the official said. The searches began at 6 am and continued till late Friday evening in which the I-T department confiscated some documents, the official said. In Gurugram, CRPF personnel were deployed outside the locations where raids were being carried out.

There was a fresh spell of rain in the national capital on Saturday morning and the minimum temperature settled at 25.2 degrees Celsius, two notches below the season's average, the India Meteorological Department said. The department predicted generally cloudy skies with moderate rainfall during the day. It said the maximum temperature is likely to settle around 34 degrees Celsius. In the 24-hour period till Saturday morning, the city has witnessed 54 mm of rainfall. The humidity at 8.30 am was recorded at 100 per cent. An AQI between zero and 50 is considered 'good', 51 and 100 'satisfactory', 101 and 200 'moderate', 201 and 300 'poor', 301 and 400 'very poor', and 401 and 500 'severe'.

Lieutenant Governor (LG) V K Saxena has approved allotment of 297 sqm of land at Jangpura for the Delhi-Meerut RRTS corridor project, Raj Niwas officials said on Saturday. The allotment of the land, belonging to the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB), was "pending for the last two years" and was critical for implementation of the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) project, they said. The semi-high-speed regional rail service RAPIDX on the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor will bring down the travel time between Delhi to Meerut significantly. The project is helmed by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC). The LG has approved allotment of 297 sqm of land keeping in view the national importance and public interest involved in the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS project, a senior official said. The Duhai Depot of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor is now functional with state-of-the-art facilities, National Capital Region Transport Corporation officials said on Monday. The Centre's air quality panel on Wednesday said industries using unapproved fuels, including coal, in Delhi-NCR will be closed down straightaway from January 1 and heavy fines will be imposed on them. However, the use of low-sulphur coal in thermal power plants is allowed, it said. "Pollution control authorities have been directed to close down industries and commercial establishments using unapproved fuels, including coal, without giving them any show cause notice.
