Rescue operation on for American ski mountaineer missing in Nepal mountain

Rescuers in a helicopter were searching on the world's eighth-highest mountain Tuesday for a famed US ski mountaineer a day after she fell off the mountain near the peak. Also Monday, an avalanche at a lower elevation on Mount Manaslu swept several climbers, killing a Nepali guide and injuring other climbers. Hilaree Nelson, 49, was skiing down from the 8,163-metre (26,775-foot) summit with her partner Jim Morrison when she fell off the mountain, according to Jiban Ghimire of the Kathmandu-based Shangri-La Nepal Trek that organised and outfitted the expedition. Bad weather hampered rescue efforts Monday. But visibility was good in improved weather conditions Tuesday while a helicopter was hovering over the mountain to see any signs of the missing climber, Ghimire said. Ola Electric on Thursday said it plans to foray into the international markets starting with Nepal. The company said it has signed a memorandum of understanding with CG Motors in Nepal partnering them as local distributors for its Ola S1 scooters (S1 & S1 Pro). The scooters will be available in Nepal starting next quarter, the Bengaluru-based electric two-wheeler maker said in a statement. In the second phase, the company also aims to enter Latin America, ASEAN and European Union, increasing the company's presence in up to five international markets. "Our international expansion not only means that we will as a company be able to serve customers in these similar regions, but it is also testament to the fact that India will lead the EV revolution for the world," Ola Founder and CEO Bhavish Aggarwal noted. The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved an environment ministry proposal for signing a Memorandum of Understanding with Nepal on biodiversity conservation. NHPC to sell hydro power to PTC India from upcoming Nepal projects

State-run hydro power giant NHPC has inked a pact with PTC India to supply electricity to be generated from upcoming West Seti & Seti River-6 projects in Nepal, a statement said on Tuesday. The MoU was signed by NHPC CMD A.K. Singh and Dr. Rajib K. Mishra, CMD, PTC India Limited. As per the MoU, PTC shall purchase the Contracted Capacity from NHPC from date of commercial operation of the projects for onward sale to the state utilities/discoms/bulk consumers on long term basis in India and neighbouring countries. The PTC India shall also endeavour to sell any untied capacity on medium/short term basis or on power exchanges, it stated.
