NHPC inks agreement with Japan's JBIC for around Rs 1,100 crore loan

State-owned hydropower giant NHPC on Thursday said it has inked a loan agreement of JPY 20 billion (around Rs 1,100 crore) with Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) for developing a 300 MW solar project in Bikaner, Rajasthan. This is the first kind of loan syndication by NHPC with JBIC for the financing of renewable energy project, a company statement said. According to the statement, JBIC's loan is co-financed with MUFG Bank Ltd., Japan and Bank of Yokohama Ltd, Japan. NHPC has secured a foreign currency loan of JPY 20 billion from JBIC for the implementation of renewable projects, including a 300 MW solar power project, Bikaner, it stated. The loan agreement was signed by the senior officials of NHPC and JBIC. The facility is extended under JBIC's GREEN Operations (Global Action for Reconciling Economic Growth and Environment Preservation), which ensures the preservation of the global environment.

NHPC board approves proposal for raising Rs 6,100 cr funds through NCDs

State-owned NHPC on Wednesday said its board has approved a proposal to raise Rs 6,100 crore in debt in 2024-25. The Board of Directors of NHPC in its meeting held on Wednesday considered and approved the proposal for raising of debt up to Rs 6,100 crore during 2024-25 through non-convertible Corporate Bonds in one or more tranches on private placement basis, term loans or external commercial borrowing in tranches, a BSE filing said. Further, the Board of Directors in the meeting has also given its in-principle approval for closure of Loktak Downstream Hydroelectric Corporation Limited (a Subsidiary Company of NHPC Limited and Joint Venture with Govt. of Manipur), subject to the approval of DIPAM, Ministry of Power and Govt. of Manipur, it stated.

NHPC bags 200 MW solar project in Khavda Renewable Energy Park in Gujarat

State-run hydro power giant NHPC has bagged a 200 MW solar project which will be set up at Gujarat State Electricity Corporation's 1,125 MW renewable energy park at Khavda, in Gujarat. The e-reverse auction for the project was conducted by GUVNL (Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam) on March 2, 2024 and the Letter of Intent was issued on March 14, 2024, a company statement said. The project was secured at a tariff of Rs 2.66 per unit and will be completed in a period of 18 months. The project will generate about 473 million units in the first year of commissioning and the cumulative generation from the project over a period of 25 years would be about 10,850 million units. The NHPC will develop the project on a build-own-and-operate basis at a tentative development cost of about Rs 847 crore.

NHPC to set up 1,200 MW solar project in UP at Rs 797 cr investment

State-owned NHPC expects to complete the proposed 1,200 MW solar power project entailing an investment of Rs 796.96 crore in Uttar Pradesh in two years, the company said on Tuesday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday laid the foundation stone of the solar project through virtual mode. NHPC in an exchange filing stated that the Jalaun Ultra Renewable Energy Power Park at Orai in the Jalaun district of Uttar Pradesh will be developed by its subsidiary, Bundelkhand Saur Urja Ltd, at an investment of Rs 796.96 crore. "The park is proposed to be constructed in 24 months from the investment approval and will generate about 2,400 MUs (million units) of electricity every year," NHPC said. NHPC, under the Ministry of Power, is the largest hydropower development organisation in India, with capabilities to undertake all the activities from conceptualisation to commissioning of hydro projects. The Faridabad-based company has also diversified into solar and wind energy development.

NHPC Q3 results: Profit declines 19% to Rs 628 crore on higher expenses

State-owned NHPC on Monday posted a 19 per cent fall in its consolidated net profit to Rs 628.44 crore for the October-December quarter of 2023-24 due to higher expenses. The hydro-power producer had reported a net profit of Rs 775.99 crore in the October-December period of 2022-23, the company said in an exchange filing. The company's total income also fell to Rs 2,549.69 crore in the quarter from Rs 2,691.34 crore a year ago. Expenses rose to Rs 1,727.85 crore in the quarter under review from Rs 1,303.06 crore in the third quarter of the last fiscal. The board of the company approved an interim dividend of Rs 1.40 per equity share for the financial year 2023-24. It fixed February 22 as record date for the purpose of ascertaining eligibility of shareholders for payment of interim dividend. The government's 3.5 per cent share sale offer in NHPC on Thursday received an enthusiastic response from institutional investors, who put in bids worth over Rs 6,000 crore. In the two-day offer for sale (OFS), the government is selling over 35 crore equity shares in power producer NHPC, including a greenshoe option to sell 10 crore more, at a floor price of Rs 66 a share. At the floor price of Rs 66/share, the OFS would fetch about Rs 2,000 crore to the exchequer. The OFS would open for retail investors on Friday. "Offer for Sale in NHPC received enthusiastic response from non-retail investors today. The issue was subscribed 4.03 times of the base size (non-retail category). Govt has decided to exercise the green shoe option," the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM) Secretary said in a post on X. Govt to sell 3.5% stake in NHPC at Rs 66 a share beginning Thursday

The government on Wednesday said it will sell a 3.5 per cent stake in power producer NHPC at a floor price of Rs 66 a share, which will garner Rs 2,300 crore to the exchequer. "Offer for sale in NHPC opens tomorrow for non-retail investors. Retail investors can bid on Friday. The government will divest 3.5 per cent equity, including Greenshoe option of 1 per cent," the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management Secretary Tuhin Kanta Pandey said on X. As part of the OFS, the government will sell over 25 crore equity shares in NHPC, with a greenshoe option to sell 10 crore more. The floor price of Rs 66 a share is at a discount of 9.66 per cent over Wednesday's closing price of NHPC shares. At the floor price, the OFS would fetch about Rs 2,300 crore to the exchequer. Shares of NHPC closed at Rs 73.06 apiece, up 0.90 per cent on the BSE.

Apraava Energy bags 250-MW solar project from NHPC via auction route

Apraava Energy on Thursday said it bagged a 250-MW solar energy project from state-owned NHPC Ltd. The project, won through the e-reverse auction mechanism at a walk-out tariff of Rs 2.53 per kWh, is scheduled to be completed within 24 months, a company statement said. This is Apraava's first greenfield solar power project through the auction route. The interstate transmission system (ISTS) connected solar energy project has been awarded by the NHPC Ltd in Rajasthan, the statement said. Rajiv Ranjan Mishra, Managing Director, Apraava Energy, said in the statement, "We are excited to strengthen our solar energy portfolio with this win in Rajasthan, a pivotal state driving the growth of renewable energy in India." The Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) between the NHPC and Apraava Energy is for a period of 25 years from the scheduled commissioning date. As part of the agreement, Apraava Energy will be responsible for design, construction and operation of the project for the PPA tenure.

NHPC pledges to invest Rs 4k cr in 750 MW Kuppa hydro storage project

NHPC has inked an initial pact to invest Rs 4,000 crore in 750 MW Kuppa Pumped Hydro Storage Project at Chhota Udaipur in Gujarat. Taking a step towards clean and green energy, NHPC signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Gujarat Power Corporation (GPCL) for investment in Kuppa Pumped Hydro Storage Project (750 MW) on January 3, 2024, a company statement said. According to the statement, the MoU was signed at an event organised at the Secretariat in Gandhinagar under the aegis of 'Vibrant Gujarat'. In the presence of Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, and state Energy Minister Kanubhai Desai, the MoU was signed by Arun Mahesh Babu, Managing Director, GPCL, and V Srivastava, Executive Director, Renewable Energy and Green Hydrogen, NHPC, the statement said. Gensol to develop NHPC's green hydrogen mobility station project in Laddakh

Gensol Engineering Ltd on Thursday said it has emerged as the lowest bidder for NHPC's Kargil Green Hydrogen Mobility Station EPC Project in Laddakh. Gensol has secured this project by demonstrating techno-commercial competency in collaboration with Matrix Gas & Renewables Ltd (Matrix), the company said in a statement. Gensol will develop a 500-kW grid-connected, ground-mounted solar power project that will provide energy to the hydrogen refuelling station. The scope of work includes the entire balance of plant EPC encompassing the green hydrogen system installation, storage, and dispensing facilities, in addition to the requisite civil and electrical infrastructure for the integrated solar and hydrogen operation in Ladakh, it said. NHPC net profit rises marginally to Rs 1,693 crore in September quarter

State-owned hydro power giant NHPC on Monday posted a marginal rise in its consolidated net profit to Rs 1,693.26 crore compared to a year ago. Its consolidated net profit was Rs 1,685.81 crore in the quarter ended September last year, a BSE filing showed. Total income dipped to Rs 3,113.82 crore in the reporting quarter from Rs 3,477.93 crore recorded in the same period a year ago.
