Delhi Food and Civil Supplies Minister Imran Hussain on Wednesday held a meeting with his department officers to review the issue of 'sudden and unexplained' rise in onion prices
The consignment would be inspected thoroughly by quarantine officials and released only if found free from pests and diseases of concern to India.
Hussain also directed agencies to work in coordination with each other to ensure timely, regular and adequate supply of onion through mobile vans
Earlier today, the Union Minister held a meeting with Consumer Affairs Secretary AK Srivastava and Food Secretary Ravikant over the rising onion prices and the onion import issue.
This decision was taken at a meeting of the inter-ministerial committee on Tuesday as it again reviewed the prices and availability of onions
