Rajasthan govt to launch mega sports event to reach out to over 5 mn people

Ahead of Assembly polls, the Congress government in Rajasthan will launch a mega sports event to engage more than 50 lakh people in both rural and urban areas of the state, officials said on Sunday. Buoyed by the "overwhelming" response to the first edition of the Rajiv Gandhi Rural Olympic Games in August last year, which saw a participation of nearly 30 lakh people, the government has decided to hold the games in urban areas too, they said. The Rajiv Gandhi Rural and Urban Olympic Games will begin on International Olympic Day on June 23 and conclude on National Sports Day on August 29, officials said. With close to 55 lakh people registering for the games, which is higher than the official target of 50 lakh, the government plans to publicise its schemes and programmes through the event and promote the spirit of sportsmanship among participants of all ages, they said. Kabaddi, tennis ball cricket, kho kho, volleyball and football will be common in both rural and urban areas, ...

Country worried over one-sided action by central probe agencies: Gehlot

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Wednesday said the whole country is worried over the "one-sided" action being taken by central probe agencies like the Central Bureau of Investigation and the Enforcement Directorate. These agencies should do their work but the rule of law should prevail, he said. His remarks came days after the ED conducted searches at multiple locations in Rajasthan on Monday in connection with a money laundering investigation into allegations of exam paper leaks for recruitment of teachers in the state. "They (BJP government) send the ED before elections but we are not afraid. Let the ED do its work, we do not have any problem. The ED, the Income Tax department and the CBI should do their work but the rule of law should prevail," Gehlot told reporters at the Rajasthan Police headquarters here after holding a meeting to review the law and order in the state. Raje, 2 other BJP leaders helped save my govt during 2020 rebellion: Gehlot

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Sunday claimed Vasundhara Raje and two other BJP leaders had helped save his government during the 2020 revolt by his party MLAs. He also took potshots at the rebel Congress MLAs saying they should return the money they had taken from the BJP so that they can carry out their duty without any pressure. Gehlot's then deputy Sachin Pilot and 18 other Congress MLAs had revolted against his leadership in July 2020. The month-long crisis ended after the intervention of the party high command. Pilot was then removed as the deputy chief minister and state Congress president. Addressing a programme in Dholpur, Gehlot said his government could be saved because of the support of three BJP leaders -- former chief minister Vasundhara Raje, former assembly speaker Kailash Meghwal and MLA Shobharani Kushwah. "(Union ministers) Amit Shah, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and Dharmendra Pradhan conspired together to topple my government. They distributed money in ..
