Inspired by Raj, UP explores destination wedding market, proposal in works

Inspired by Rajasthan, the Uttar Pradesh government is all set to promote its forts and palaces as destination wedding sites and give a fillip to the state's economy. The initiative has been taken under the tourism policy-2022, which seeks to make Uttar Pradesh a trillion dollar economy by 2027. A proposal on the matter is expected to come up in the cabinet meeting very soon, an official said. "Uttar Pradesh is a very attractive place to make marriage memorable with royal pomp and cultural heritage," UP Principal Secretary for Tourism and Culture Mukesh Kumar Meshram told PTI. Meshram said that beside Taj Mahal the state is replete with forts and palaces, all with a serious potential to offer themselves as a destination wedding site. "There are many places such as Mathura-Vrindavan, which is the city of spiritual love, there is Chunar fort, and then there is Mahoba's 'Mastani Mahal' associated with Bajirao-Mastani's deep love. Rajasthan govt's welfare schemes being discussed all over country: Gehlot

Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Tuesday claimed that various welfare schemes launched by the Rajasthan government are being discussed all over the country today and reiterated that the central government should adopt them as well. He was addressing the masses here after visiting the Kaladera inflation relief camp. We have given gas cylinders for Rs 500. Every other government in the country is fed up with the Rajasthan government as now even they will have to give cylinders at a cheap price, Gehlot said, adding that the scheme will prove to be good for the poor people of the country. "We have asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to give gas cylinders for Rs. 500. People should also get health insurance up to Rs 25 lakh across the country, he said. He also underlined the importance of welfare schemes in light of the current inflation rate. Addressing the G20 Tourism Expo in Jaipur, he also exhorted all participants to go back as "ambassadors of Rajasthan tourism". "Under the guidance and leadership of Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, we are planning to put out 23 old airstrips on a PPT (public-private partnership mode) where chartered flights linkage can be provided directly," Singh said. Citing an example of Kishangarh airport, he said that after the operationalisation of flights to this airport, a lot of crowd has got diverted from the main airport. Rajasthan govt committed to development not 'danga', says Gehlot's office

A Rajasthan government official on Saturday said the Congress government in the state stands for development, dedication, and dialogue and not 'danga' and 'durvyavahar' as alleged by Union Minister Amit Shah. Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot's Officer on Special Duty Lokesh Sharma said this in response to Shah's allegations earlier in the day, in which he called the Congress government in the state to be marred with riots, and oppression of women and Dalits. "AmitShah ji, You have said correctly. Rajasthan is a 3D government. D Development, D- Dedication, D- Dialogue," Sharma said in a tweet. He said the Rajasthan government is dedicated to every individual. Be it regarding budget, health, or any social security scheme, every major decision is taken through dialogue, he added. "Amit Shah must be aware that Vasundhara Raje did not even communicate with his ministers and MLAs whereas Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot directly interacts with the public," Sharma said. Congress in-fight in Rajasthan a fight for chair, says Vasundhara Raje

Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje on Saturday said the fight between Sachin Pilot and Ashok Gehlot is a fight for chair and the people of the state are suffering because of it. Referring to the tussle between Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and his former deputy Sachin Pilot, Raje said Gehlot accuses BJP of taking over other governments, but the truth is that the governments he formed in 2008 and 2018 were also formed by manipulation. The Gehlot government was in minority then and it is in minority now, she said. "The MLAs of his party are against him, his ministers keep talking about something or the other in protest every day," said the BJP leader while addressing the 'Booth Maha Sammelan' in Bharatpur in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Corruption is rampant and atrocities on Dalits and women are high in the state, and so is unemployment, Raje said. Pilot recently held a daylong fast demanding action from the Gehlot government in the alleged ..

Gehlot filling Cong coffers with money, Pilot's turn will not come: Shah

Targeting the Congress in Rajasthan over infighting, Union home minister Amit Shah on Saturday claimed the party will always give precedence to Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot over Sachin Pilot as his contribution is higher in filling its coffers with the "corruption" money from the state. "Pilot sits on dharna on any pretext but his number will not come because his contribution in filling the coffers of Congress party is less and Gehlot's contribution is higher," Shah said while addressing booth-level party workers meeting in Bharatpur. Gehlot has made the Rajasthan government an "'adda' (hub) of corruption and has looted the state. This money of corruption has gone to the coffers of the Congress party, the BJP leader alleged. On the acquittal of the accused in the 2008 Jaipur bomb blast case, Shah alleged that the Congress government did not present proper arguments in the high court due to vote bank politics. The government is doing vote bank politics on the deaths of blast victims,

Dharna by Pilot would amount to anti-party activity, says Congress

Taking strong objection to the proposed dharna by former Rajasthan deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot, the Congress on Monday evening said any such protest against its sitting government would amount to anti-party activity. Pilot on Sunday alleged that the Ashok Gehlot-led government failed to investigate cases of alleged corruption during the BJP rule in Rajasthan and announced plans to hold a day-long fast on Tuesday to press for action. Sukhjinder Randhawa, the Congress general secretary in-charge for Rajasthan, said he talked to Pilot during the day and told him to raise issues at party platforms instead of going public against its own government. "I personally called Sachin Pilot and asked him to raise such matters at party platforms instead of going public like this," he told PTI when asked if he had discussed Pilot's proposed fast with him. Randhawa said any such action or fast is not justified and all matters should be raised within the party platforms and not publicly like

Wrong to say Gehlot govt not acting against corruption: Pawan Khera

A day after Congress leader Sachin Pilot launched a fresh attack on the Rajasthan government over corruption, the party on Monday sought to downplay his remarks and said it is "wrong" to say that the Ashok Gehlot dispensation is not acting against graft. Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera said a probe against senior BJP leader from Rajasthan Gajendra Singh Shekhawat is on in the Sanjeevani scam and the Union minister has also filed a defamation case against Chief Minister Gehlot. "A probe is underway on how the BJP conspired to topple our elected government in Rajasthan and tried to buy our MLAs," he told reporters here when asked about Pilot's remarks that the Congress government in Rajasthan was not against graft cases during the previous BJP government in the state. "It is wrong to say that a probe is not on, as an investigation is being carried out and if anyone has a complaint, he should bring it to the notice of the AICC in-charge," Khera said. Private doctors in Rajasthan on Tuesday ended their 17-day strike over the Right to Health Bill after the state government agreed to their key demands including keeping unaided private hospitals outside the ambit of the proposed law. Among other provisions, the recently passed Bill allows people to get emergency treatment from all government and designated private hospitals without payment. The government is expected to reimburse the private hospital for this. "An agreement with the government has been made. Private hospitals that have not taken subsidy from th

Medical services hit in Rajasthan as doctors protest Right to Health Bill

Medical services were affected in parts of Rajasthan on Wednesday after government doctors and faculty members in medical colleges went on a one-day strike in solidarity with private doctors agitating against the Right to Health Bill. However, several government doctors attended to patients in OPDs at places like Bharatpur, Alwar and Udaipur. Emergency services and ICUs were exempted from the strike. A health department official said in the evening that there was no significant impact of the boycott because the OPDs were handled through alternative arrangements. There was not much impact of the boycott in Sawai Mansingh (SMS) hospitals, the largest state-run hospitals in Rajasthan. Services remained unaffected in Dausa, the hometown of state Health Minister Parsadi Lal Meena. In Rajasthan, private doctors are demanding withdrawal of the Bill passed in the state assembly last Tuesday. According to the Bill, every resident of the state will have the right to emergency treatment and
