Shreyas Iyer to miss Mumbai's Ranji Trophy 2024-25 clash against Tripura

Shreyas Iyer will miss Mumbai's third round clash in the Ranji Trophy against Tripura, to be played at Agartala's Maharaja Bir Bikram College Stadium from October 26-29, due to personal reasons. The right-handed batter has requested the Mumbai senior men's selection committee for some time off and his appeal has been accepted, a senior official from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) confirmed to PTI on Wednesday. The 29-year-old has featured in each of the three domestic games for Mumbai this season, which includes the heavyweights' title win in the Irani Cup after 27 years. Iyer made 57 and 8 in the clash against the Rest of India side. Iyer scored a match-winning 142 last week in the second round Ranji Trophy Group A match against Maharashtra to help Mumbai record their first victory, post which the batter claimed that he was making steady progress in terms of his fitness. "It feels special, coming back after a very long time. Obviously, I was feeling a bit down with my injuri

Ranji Trophy 2024-25: Mumbai cruise to nine-wicket win over Maharashtra

Defending champions Mumbai got their Ranji Trophy campaign back on track with an emphatic nine-wicket win over Maharashtra in their second Group A league game here on Monday, offsetting the heavy loss to Baroda in the opening game. Needing 74 to win, Mumbai went into the final day at 13 for no loss. While Ayush Mhatre's (15) dismissal robbed them off a bonus point, Prithvi Shaw (39 not out off 36 balls) and Hardik Tamore (21 not out off 26 balls) earned six points for the team in just 13.3 overs. This was after the 42-time champions lost to Baroda by 84 runs in the opening Ranji Trophy fixture but in the second match at the BKC ground, Mumbai excelled in all departments of the game. The match was won and lost on the first day itself when Mumbai bowled out Maharashtra for 126 in their first innings and then rode on 17-year-old Mhatre's smashing 176 and Shreyas Iyer's belligerent 142 to score 441. While Maharashtra fared much better in the second innings with centuries from Ruturaj

Ranji Trophy 2024-25: Delhi deny Tamil Nadu outright win in Group D

Opener Sanat Sangwan hit a patient 83 as Delhi managed to deny Tamil Nadu an outright win and earn a point from their Ranji Trophy Group D match here on Monday. Resuming their first innings at 264 for 8, Delhi lost their remaining two wickets for the addition of just two runs with centurion Yash Dhull (105 not out) remaining stranded at the other end. Following on, Delhi lost Dhull early but Sangwan produced a gritty performance with the bat, scoring his runs off 231 balls with the help of 12 boundaries. He received good support from skipper Himmat Singh (36) and Jonty Sidhu (23) before Delhi survived some anxious moments to finish the final day at 193 for 8 in 83 overs. India International Washington Sundar (3/45), Sonu Yadav (2/37) and Ajith Ram (2/52) were the wicket-takers for Tamil Nadu. Tamil Nadu got three points from the match. Ranji Trophy: Nagwaswalla stars in Gujarat's one wicket win over Andhra

Left-arm pacer Arzan Nagwaswalla shone with a four-wicket haul as Gujarat pulled off a thrilling one wicket-win over Andhra on day four of their Ranji Trophy Group B fixture here on Monday. Resuming at an overnight 203 for four, Andhra managed to score 297 in their second innings after following on, setting a 144-run target for the home team. Andhra left-arm spinner Lalith Mohan made life difficult for Gujarat in what turned out to be a tricky run chase. His seven wicket haul reduced Gujarat to 131/9 before Nagwaswalla (16 not out off 22) and Priyajitsin Jadeja (1 not out) got their side over the line. After a stellar effort with the ball, Nagwaswalla was able to deliver with the bat under extreme pressure. Gujarat got six points for the win while Andhra drew a blank. Earlier, K S Bharat (42) pushed Andhra's total close to 300 with Nitiesh Reddy (34) and Hanuma Vihari (32) also chipping in. Brief scores: In Ahmedabad: Gujarat: 367 and 144/9 in 50.3 overs. Rahane-led Mumbai on verge of victory against Gaikwad-led Maharashtra

Defending champions Mumbai closed in on an outright win despite fine hundreds by Maharashtra skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad and seasoned middle-order batter Ankit Bawne on the third day of their Ranji Trophy Group A match here on Sunday. Maharashtra were all out for 388 in their second innings, leaving Mumbai with a victory target of 74 with a full day's play left in the game. At 13 for no loss at stumps, Mumbai were just 61 away from victory with openers Prithvi Shaw and Ayush Mhatre batting on 7 and 6 respectively. Bawne struck a terrific hundred (101 off 152 balls) after Gaikwad responded with a century of his own after his first-innings failure but these efforts were not enough to make up for their forgettable outing with the bat on the opening day when the visiting side was bundled out for 126. Star player Gaikwad, who was out for a two-ball duck in the first essay in a team total of 126, led Maharashtra's charge with a 145-run knock that came off 171 balls, while Bawne, who made his

Ishan Kishan returns as Jharkhand captain after controversial pullout

India batter Ishan Kishan on Wednesday returned to the Jharkhand Ranji team as its captain, following his controversial pullout last season that led to his exclusion from the BCCI central contract. The explosive left-hander, who became a regular in India's white-ball squad after Rishabh Pant's road accident in December 2022, took a break during India's tour of South Africa last year. Post break, he did not participate in any official BCCI matches, which raised a few eyebrows as the board stressed on players prioritising domestic cricket when not on national duty. The 26-year-old resurfaced this February, playing in the privately organised DY Patil T20 Cup ahead of the IPL and sparking a debate over balance between franchise cricket and state commitments. His absence from domestic cricket during this period contributed to his omission from the BCCI's 2023-24 central contracts. However, Kishan has since worked his way back into the BCCI's good books with strong performances in domes

Delhi Ranji team probables: Kohli, Pant named in 84, no Ishant Sharma

Premier batter Virat Kohli and the flamboyant Rishabh Pant have once again been named in a jumbo 84-member Delhi Ranji Trophy probables list although the duo is unlikely to be available for any of the red ball games throughout the season. However, veteran pacer Ishant Sharma's name didn't figure in the list which has the country's fastest bowler Mayank Yadav along with another Team India contender Harshit Rana. Kohli had last played Ranji Trophy for Delhi in 2012 at Ghaziabad against Uttar Pradesh while Pant last featured in a red ball game for Delhi in the pre-COVID era. "This is a protocol. They are our registered players and it is our duty to put their names in probables list in case they want to play," a DDCA official told PTI on conditions of anonymity. In case of the 35-year-old 100 Test veteran Ishant, it is understood that there is no point in him playing Ranji Trophy since he no longer figures in national team's scheme of things. Ishant didn't play in inaugural Delhi Prem
