New highways to have advanced traffic mgt system: NHAI member

To improve road safety, all new national highways will have an Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS), a member of National Highway Authority of India said on Tuesday. Addressing a virtual event organised by International Road Federation (IRF), NHAI Member, Projects, R K Pandey said corrective measures have been taken to remove black spots on national highways. "To improve road safety in the country and to reduce fatal road accidents on national highways, all the new roads being developed under National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) will have Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS)," he said. The ATMS will include immediate location identification of areas where traffic bottlenecks occur due to accidents or other reasons and provision of information to motorists on that stretch immediately. Govt approves highway projects worth more than Rs 6,176 crore

The government on Thursday approved highway projects worth more than Rs 6,176 crore. These projects pertain to seven states and union territories, including Maharashtra, Assam and Ladakh. "Ministry of Road Transport & Highways has accorded approval to upgradation, rehabilitation and reconstruction of a number of projects, across the country," it said in a statement. These include Rs 2,801.33 crore-worth projects in Maharashtra and RS 1,259 crore-worth projects in Assam. According to the ministry, projects worth Rs 779 crore have been approved for Ladakh while Rs 810 crore projects have been approved for Andhra Pradesh.

Automakers told to ramp up IT infrastructure amid cyber-attack threats

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways on Sunday alerted NHAI, NHIDCL and its other wings besides automobile makers to augment their IT security systems after reports regarding threats of possible cyber attacks targeted at the Indian transport sector. The ministry said it has received an alert from the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) about possible cyber attacks. "The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways received an alert from CERT-In regarding targeted intrusion activities directed towards Indian Transport sector with possible malicious intentions. The Ministry has advised departments and organisations under transport sector to strengthen the security posture of their infrastructure," the Ministry said in a statement. To boost electric mobility, the government aims to support through subsidies about 62,000 electric passenger cars and buses, besides 15 lakh electric three- and two-wheelers, Parliament was informed on Thursday. The focus is also on creating electric charging infrastructure, Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari told the Lok Sabha in a written reply. Phase-II of Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid &) Electric Vehicles in India (FAME India) Scheme is being implemented with a total budgetary support of Rs 10,000 crore, he added. "This phase focusses on supporting electrification of public & shared transportation and aims to support, through subsidies, approx. 7000 e-Buses, 5 lakh e-3 Wheelers, 55000 e-4 Wheeler Passenger Cars and 10 lakh e-2 Wheelers. "In addition, creation of charging infrastructure is also supported to address range anxiety among users of electric vehicles," the minister said.
