Mumbai [Maharahstra], Aug 29 (ANI): A Mumbai sessions court on Wednesday rejected an application by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in which the agency had sought custody of accused Sharad Kalaskar in Narendra Dabholkar murder case.The application was rejected by the court on the ground that the CBI has applied for remand after the accused was already remanded to Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) custody till September 3.The CBI wanted to confront Kalaskar with another accused of Dabholkar murder case, Sachin Andure, who was arrested from Aurangabad after a tipoff by ATS. Andure has already been sent in the CBI's custody till August 30 by the Pune CBI court.Rejecting the CBI's plea, the court said that the same accused was sent to ATS custody in a terror conspiracy case on Tuesday and the court cannot remand this accused from ATS to CBI according to CrPC 367.According to the CBI application, the investigating agency had sought Kalaskar's custody after obtaining a production warrant ...
A day after five prominent Left-wing activists were arrested in police raids in several states, civil rights defenders claimed today that the country was under "undeclared emergency". A rally was organised from College Street to Esplanade area in Kolkata, where people from various backgrounds participated to condemn the arrest and demand the immediate release of the activists. Civil rights activist Sujato Bhadra said the democracy in India was going through one of its "darkest phases". "Indira Gandhi had at least declared the emergency officially. But the (Narendra) Modi government has imposed undeclared emergency," Bhadra said. The legal age for marriage should be the same for both genders, a member of National Human Rights Commission said today. Speakers at the 'National Conference on Child Marriage', which was organised by NHRC in collaboration with South Asia Initiative to End Violence against Children (SAIEVAC), stressed on the need for stringent laws to end the menace of underage marriage. Speaking at the two-day conference, NHRC member Jyotika Kalra said a law needs to be instituted to make the legal age for marriage uniform, which is in line with the expressions made at the highest levels, including the Supreme Court and Law Commission of India. "It (legal age for marriage) should not be 21 years for boys and 18 years for girls as there is no scientific data to support this difference. The Centre on Wednesday approved to release an additional installment of Dearness Allowance (DA) to Central Government employees and Dearness Relief (DR) to pensioners with effect from July 01 representing an increase of two per cent over the existing rate of seven per cent of the basic pay/Pension, to compensate for price rise.The Union Cabinet meeting was chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.The combined impact on the exchequer on account of both Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief would be Rs.6112.20 crore per annum and Rs.4074.80 crore in the financial year 2018-19 (for a period of 08 months from July 2018 to February 2019).This will benefit about 48.41 lakh central government employees and 62.03 lakh pensioners.This increase is in accordance with the accepted formula, which is based on the recommendations of the 7th Central Pay Commission.
