IOA set to have equal male, female representation with voting rights

The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) will have equal representation of male and female members with voting rights in its General Assembly, a remarkable achievement considering its troubled and faction-ridden recent past, if it approves the draft constitution at its Special General Meeting on November 10. The IOA will also throw open the president's post to any citizen of the country, a radical change from the earlier requirement for a candidate to have served in the executive committee. A similar provision was included in the constitution of the All India Football Federation (AIFF) recently after it was banned briefly by the international parent body FIFA. The elected post of secretary general, which was held by some eminent personalities in the past, will no longer be there and his role will be taken over by a CEO appointed by the executive council. Virat Kohli on Wednesday overtook former Sri Lanka skipper Mahela Jayawardene to become the all-time leading run-scorer in T20 World Cup history. Kohli, who boasts of an average of more than 80 and a strike rate of over 130 in T20 World Cups, reached the milestone during India's Super 12 match against Bangladesh. The 33-year-old, playing his fifth T20 World Cup, went past Jayawardene's 1016 runs in the seventh over of the Indian innings. Kohli has 12 half-centuries to his credit across all editions of the T20 World Cup, including two in the ongoing edition. He is also the highest run-getter in all T20 internationals ahead of compatriot Rohit Sharma (3811), New Zealand's Martin Guptill (3531) and Pakistan skipper Babar Azam (3239).

Women's soccer is seeing growing revenues globally from sponsorships, broadcast deals and merchandising, while also seeing greater interest from fans, according to a new survey by the game's governing body. FIFA released its second benchmarking report on women's soccer on Friday as the sport gains momentum ahead of next summer's Women's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. The organisation surveyed 30 of the top leagues and 294 clubs, building on the first benchmarking report released last year. While COVID-19 impacted club revenue in the prior report, the latest survey found growth across the board from matchday, broadcast, commercial and prize money sources. Clubs reported year-on-year commercial revenue growth of 33 per cent indicating growing interest from sponsors. It found that 77 per cent of leagues had a title sponsor, up from 11 per cent in 2021.
