Maliwal assault case: 500-page chargesheet filed against Kejriwal's aide

The Delhi Police on Tuesday filed its 500-odd page charge sheet against Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's aide Bibhav Kumar in a case of alleged assault against AAP MP Swati Maliwal. The charge sheet was filed before Metropolitan Magistrate Gaurav Goyal who also extended the judicial custody of Kumar till July 30. Kumar is accused of assaulting Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Maliwal on May 13 at the chief minister's official residence here. During the Tuesday's proceedings, the prosecution told the court that the charge sheet runs into around 500 pages and it also has the statements of about 50 witnesses. Maliwal assault case: Delhi police likely to file charge sheet on Tuesday

The Delhi Police will likely file the charge sheet in connection with the case of assault on AAP MP Swati Maliwal, allegedly by Delhi Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal's aide Bibhav Kumar, on Tuesday at a local court, official sources said. Police have almost concluded the investigation and they are ready to file the charge sheet against Kumar at Tis Hazari court, sources said. According to them, police have prepared an over 1,000-page charge sheet with the security staff, who were deployed at the residence of Arvind Kejriwal, when the alleged incident took place, as witnesses. The Delhi High Court on Friday sought the city police's stand on the bail plea of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's aide Bibhav Kumar in the case pertaining to the alleged assault on AAP Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal. The Delhi Police has added the IPC section for "disappearing evidence and giving false information" against Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's aide Bibhav Kumar in AAP MP Swati Maliwal's assault case, an official said on Monday. The Delhi High Court on Friday reserved order on the issue of maintainability of a plea by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's close aide Bibhav Kumar challenging his arrest in connection with the alleged assault on AAP MP Swati Maliwal at the CM's residence earlier this month. The senior counsel, appearing for the police, opposed issuance of notice on the petition on the grounds that it was not maintainable. A court here on Tuesday granted three days to Delhi Police for custodial interrogation of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's aide Bibhav Kumar, who has been accused of assaulting AAP Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal. The court said Delhi Police cannot be "deprived of its right" to recover the mobile phone which he was carrying at the time of the alleged assault at the chief minister's official residence on May 13. "The presence of the accused in a room where NVRs (network video recorders) are installed is not denied by him or his lawyer. To the mind of this court, the reason for remaining there for a sufficient time is obviously a question which needs to be investigated for which custodial interrogation is necessary," Metropolitan Magistrate Gaurav Goyal said. A court here on Monday dismissed the bail plea of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's close aide Bibhav Kumar who is accused of assaulting AAP MP Swati Maliwal at the CM's residence.
