Pune cops file 75 cases of noise pollution during immersion

As many as 75 cases of violation of noise pollution norms by playing high decibel sound appliances during Ganpati immersion processions held Sunday in Pune have come to light despite the High Court ban on playing hi-tech sound systems, a police officer said Monday. The Bombay High Court had refused to lift the ban imposed by the Maharashtra government on the use of hi-tech sound-amplifying systems such as DJ and Dolby sound during Ganpati immersion. "Total 75 cases have been reported in which Ganesh mandals and DJ (Disc Jockey) operators violated the HC orders and played the high decibel sound appliances thus creating noise pollution," said Shirish Sardeshpande, DCP (crime). He said all these mandals violated the rules under Environmental Protection Act, 1986 and Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000. Data storage within India to create market entry barrier: R Chandrasekhar

Government proposal to mandate storage of certain set of digital data within India is likely to create a market entry barrier and has potential to isolate the country in Internet space, Rajya Sabha MP Rajeev Chandrasekhar said Monday. "The draft bill requires that certain categories of data be stored in data centres located within India. These categories will be notified by the Data Protection Authority later. This requirement is likely to create a huge barrier to market entry given the enormous costs," Chandrasekhar said in a letter to Law and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad. The Rajya Sabha MP said that India at present does not have the physical infrastructure to host large-scale data centre. "In addition to localisation, the bill requires contractual and inter-group cross-border transfer arrangements be approved by the Authority. Haryana govt raises DA by 2%

Haryana government Monday announced two per cent increase in dearness allowance (DA) for its employees on the revised pay scale effective retrospectively from July 1,2018. The state government thus raised the DA on the pattern of the Centre from the existing 7 per cent to 9 per cent, said an official release. Haryana Finance Minister, Capt Abhimanyu Monday said that this enhancement would entail an additional financial burden of Rs 182.80 crore on the state exchequer from July 1, 2018 to February, 2019 in the financial year 2018-19.

DoT puts Aadhaar based face authentication on hold

The telecom department has put Aadhaar-based face authentication on hold pending the Supreme Court judgement on petitions challenging issuance of new mobile connections and re-verification through the use of the unique identity. The Department of Telecom (DoT) in a letter dated September 19, 2018, to the UIDAI CEO said that the judgement on petition filed in the apex court challenging Aadhaar based e-KYC process is expected to be delivered this month and it may require re-look on the the whole e-KYC process for issuance of new mobile connections. Airtel announces massive network expansion plans for UP, U'khand

Bharti Airtel said Monday it will roll out 17,313 new mobile sites and 6,650 km of additional optic fibre in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand this fiscal under an expansion project. "As a part of its network expansion program Project LEAP, during present financial, Airtel plans to deploy more than 17,313 new mobile sites along with 6,650 km of fresh optic fibre across the two states," Bharti Airtel CEO, UP and Uttrakhand, Shailendra Singh told reporters here. The deployment will create significant high speed data and voice capacity within the network to serve the explosive surge in mobile usage, driven by affordable smartphones and tariffs, he said. Microsoft, DSCI tie up for free cyber security training to 1,000 women

Software major Microsoft and Data Security Council of India (DSCI) on Monday launched a programme to train 1,000 women in cyber security for free over a period of next three years. Under the program 'CyberShikshaa', 1,000 science and engineering graduate women between age group of 20-27 belonging to family with annual household income below Rs 5 lakh will be trained in cyber security. "As India leapfrogs into the next phase of growth, we see a multi-fold growth of digital assets. Bharti AXA Life Insurance said Monday it has started claim processing through social networking platform WhatsApp for a faster clearance. It has provided its customers with the option of claim intimation by sending text messages through the mode of instant messenger service WhatsApp, the private insurer said in a statement.
