US 'pretty close' to seal trade deal with India, says Donald Trump

The US is "pretty close" to reaching a "fair trade deal" with India, President Donald Trump has said, adding that he will lower the tariffs imposed on Indian goods at "some point". This is the second time in less than two weeks that the US president held out hope to seal the proposed bilateral trade deal with India. It is not immediately clear whether it was Trump's usual hyperbole or there was some progress in the negotiations for the much-awaited deal between the two sides. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent had said on CBS's Face the Nation on Sunday that the two leaders will consummate that transaction on Thursday in Korea. Wide bipartisan majorities in Congress passed and President Joe Biden signed a law that would ban TikTok in the US if it did not find a new owner to replace China's ByteDance. The platform went dark briefly on a January deadline, but on his first day in office, Trump signed
