R K Singh meets transport sector to explore ways to utilise green hydrogen

Union Minister R K Singh on Thursday assured stakeholders that if required, additional funds will be allocated under the National Green Hydrogen Mission for the decarbonisation of the transport sector. Chairing a meeting of government and industry stakeholders from the transport sector in the national capital, he emphasised the government's commitment to energy transition and India's Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) commitment to reduce emissions intensity. The minister said that, if necessary, the government would be ready to allocate additional funds beyond the already earmarked Rs 496 crore for the transport sector under the National Green Hydrogen Mission, according to an official statement. There should be a concerted series of trials for identifying the potential of green hydrogen in the transport sector so that a national roadmap for the decarbonisation of the sector through use of green hydrogen can be formulated, he said. Single smart card for different public transport modes in Bengaluru soon

Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) Managing Director Anjum Parwez on Thursday said soon passengers depending on different modes of public transport like Metro, cab and buses can travel using a single smart card. Speaking at a session on "The C.A.S.E. for Future Mobility" at the 'Bengaluru Tech Summit-23' here, he said the Union Government has planned to introduce a single smart card for the passengers traveling in different public transports. It is a dream project of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said, six City Corporations will get the facility soon. Bangalore Metro was committed to ensure eco-friendly activities and in order to encourage eco-friendly traffic systems, Parwez said, Metro stations were facilitated with two-wheeler and three-wheeler electric vehicle charging units. RITES profit after tax increases 6.5% to Rs 138 cr in March quarter

Transport infrastructure consultancy and engineering firm RITES Ltd on Thursday said its profit after tax increased by 6.5 per cent to Rs 138 crore in the January-March 2023 quarter. The company had posted a profit after tax (PAT) of Rs 130 crore in the year-ago quarter, RITES said in a statement. Operating revenue, excluding other income, stood at Rs 687 crore in the quarter under review, 10.3 per cent down from Rs 766 crore. The fall can be attributed to low exports, said the statement. RITES is a Miniratna Schedule 'A' Central Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Railways. The board of directors has recommended a final dividend of Rs 6 per share amounting to Rs 144 crore for FY23, which is 60 per cent of the paid-up capital. Upon approval, the total dividend payout ratio attributed for FY23 will stand at 92.8 per cent. Delhi transport dept to study feasibility of converting govt trucks into EV

The transport department will soon start a study to examine the feasibility of converting government trucks into electric vehicles to reduce pollution levels in Delhi, officials said on Friday. The study, to be conducted by the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT), will commence next week and the recommendations will be submitted in a couple of months. Explaining the idea behind the study, Amit Bhatt, ICCT managing director (India), told PTI, "We are trying to see if we can electrify the government trucks like garbage disposal trucks, water tankers, horticulture trucks. In order to do that, we will see their energy consumption so that in future, when they are electrified, we will know what kind of battery they will need and the charging infrastructure that will be needed."
