U'khand GSDP up 1.3 times in 20 months, per capita income at Rs 2.6 lakh

Uttarakhand's Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) has increased by 1.3 times in the last 20 months, the state government said on Wednesday. New policies brought by the state government, amendments in the old ones besides employment and self-employment programmes underway have contributed to the GSDP growth, Secretary energy, housing and planning R Meenakshi Sundaram said at a press conference. The per capita income of the state in 2021-22 was Rs 2,05,000, which rose to Rs 2,60,000 in 2023-24, he said, adding that the per capita income of the state increased by 26 per cent in the last two years, which is better than the national average. The per capita income at the national level has increased from Rs 1,50,906 to Rs 1,84,000 in two years, registering an increase of 20 per cent during the period, he said. Uttarakhand Governor Lt Gen (Retd) Gurmit Singh has given his assent to a legislation that would enable full recovery of damages caused to public property during riots or protests as well as the imposition of a fine of up to Rs 8 lakh on rioters. The Uttarakhand Public and Private Property Damage Recovery Bill was passed by the state assembly last month and sent to the governor for his nod, which was received on Thursday. Welcoming the governor's assent, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said the law's strict provisions would serve as a strong deterrent for potential offenders who damaged public property during strikes, protest demonstrations or riots. "The recovery of every paisa of a damaged public property will now be made from the person responsible for it," Dhami said. The Uttarakhand High Court has sought a reply from the state government on a PIL challenging the constitutionality of an Act granting 10 per cent reservation to those who participated in the movement for statehood and their dependents in government jobs. Landslide hits Badrinath National Highway in U'khand, movement affected

Traffic between Gauchar and Karnaprayag on Badrinath National Highway in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand was disrupted due to repeated landslides in the region, an official said on Tuesday. The district magistrate said that around 250-300 vehicles are stuck in Karnaprayag while around 200 vehicles are stuck in Gauchar. The administration is making arrangements for food and accommodation for the passengers stuck in traffic since Monday. IMD warns of extremely heavy rain in Delhi, U'khand, UP over next 3 days

A depression that originated over central India is expected to bring heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand, Delhi, parts of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh over the next two to three days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Thursday. According to the latest IMD update issued at 8:50 am, the system was located near Gwalior, around 50 kilometres north of the city and 60 kilometres south-southeast of Agra. SC orders U'khand college to release original documents of MBBS students

In a relief to 91 students, the Supreme Court has ordered a medical college in Uttarakhand to release their original documents withheld by the institute for non-payment of fee arrears. A bench headed by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud took note of the submissions of senior lawyer Gaurav Agarwal and advocate Tanvi Dubey, appearing for the doctors, that the students will neither be able to register themselves as medical practitioner nor can take up examinations for higher studies for lack of original documents. The bench, which also comprised justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, ordered Shri Guru Ram Rai Institute of Medical and Health Sciences College at Dehradun in Uttarakhand to release the documents on payment of Rs 7.5 lakh by students who have completed their MBBS course and the requisite internship. U'khand BJP leader Bora arrested for molesting minor; expelled from party

A BJP leader has been arrested for allegedly molesting a teenager in the ??Almora district of Uttarakhand. Almora SSP Devendra Pincha said on Sunday that Bhagwat Singh Bora, accused of molesting a 14-year-old girl, was arrested on Saturday night. "Our government is dedicated to public welfare. In the main annual budget, we brought several important projects. In this supplementary budget also, we have made significant provisions for public welfare projects, state finance minister Premchand Aggrawal said while presenting it in the house on the second day of its ongoing monsoon session. The size of the supplementary budget is Rs 5,013.05 crore, which includes a revenue expenditure of Rs 3,756.89 crore and a capital expenditure of Rs 1,256.16 crore. It makes a provision of Rs 1,804.82 crore for resource-related projects, out of which Rs 1,531.65 crore are meant for centrally aided and Rs 273.17 crore for externally aided projects, he said.
