Wakeel Hassan, a rat-hole miner whose house has been razed by authorities here, slammed Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena and BJP leader Manoj Tiwari on Friday for offering him to stay in an EWS flat at Narela, which is "far and unsafe". Hassan, who was part of a team that rescued 41 labourers who got trapped in an under-construction tunnel in Uttarakhand last year, have spent two nights in the open along with his family after their house in Khajoori Khas was demolished by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) on Wednesday. "I never thought that they had such a narrow thinking. My house cost Rs 1 to Rs 1.5 crore and they are giving me a house in Narela, where even dogs do not go," Hassan said. Official sources, however, said Hassan will be offered a two-bedroom DDA flat at Dilshad Garden. A formal offer to him though is yet to be made. Rs 89,230 cr budget for Uttarakhand's inclusive development: CM Dhami

The Uttarakhand government on Tuesday tabled the annual budget of more than Rs 89,000 crore for financial year 2024-25 in the state assembly. Presenting the budget in the House, state finance minister Premchand Agarwal said it was an inclusive budget aimed at building a developed Uttarakhand. The budget will be passed on March 1 after a debate in the house over the next few days.

Haldwani violence 'mastermind' arrested from Delhi: Uttarakhand police

The Uttarakhand Police on Saturday arrested the February 8 Haldwani violence alleged mastermind Abdul Malik from Delhi and brought him here, officials said. Nainital Senior Superintendent of Police Prahlad Narayan Meena said six teams were formed to search for Malik and his son Abdul Moid in different states including Gujarat, Delhi, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. One of the teams arrested Malik, who is in his 50s, from Delhi but his son is still on the run, Meena told reporters. "We have brought Malik to Haldwani. He is in our custody. He will be produced before a court at the earliest," he said. Apart from Malik, two more rioters were arrested on Saturday which takes the total number of people arrested so far in the case to 81. Malik allegedly built an "illegal" madrasa in the Banbhoolpura area of Haldwani. Its demolition led to the violence in Banbhoolpura area of Haldwani in Nanital district on February 8. Haldwani violence: Curfew relaxed for 17 hours in Banbhoolpura locality

Curfew in the Banbhoolpura area of Haldwani has been further relaxed with the Nainital district administration saying on Sunday that the restrictions will now be in place between 10 pm to 5 am only. Violence broke out on February 8 over the demolition of an illegally built madrassa in the Banbhoolpura area of Haldwani, with locals hurling stones and petrol bombs at municipal workers and police, forcing many police personnel to seek refuge at a police station, which the mob then set on fire. In the violence, six rioters were killed and more than 100 people, including police personnel and mediapersons, were injured, according to the police. According to an order issued by Nainital District Magistrate Vandana Singh on Sunday, there will now be a 17-hour relaxation in the curfew -- from 5 am to 10 pm -- in Banbhoolpura. Centre approves upgradation of 108 roads of Uttarakhand under PMGSY

The Centre has approved the upgradation of 108 roads in Uttarakhand under the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojana. The approval letter was issued by Union Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Giriraj Singh on Friday. According to the letter, 108 roads covering a total length of 1,197.207 km in Uttarakhand will be upgraded at an estimated cost of Rs 967.73 crore under PMGSY -III. Out of the total Rs 967.73 crore, the Centre will give Rs 803.85 crore and the remaining Rs 163.88 crore will be borne by the state government. The approval is being given in acknowledgement of the fact that the hilly areas are hit by natural disasters every year and people in the hills have to face various hardships, the letter said.

A look out notice has been issued against Haldwani violence key accused Abdul Malik and his son Abdul Moid, while five more rioters have been arrested, police said on Friday. Curfew relaxed in Haldwani's Banbhoolpura after 7 days following violence

The administration announced curfew relaxation for a few hours in the Banbhoolpura town on Thursday, seven days after it was imposed following the violence over the demolition of an "illegal" madrasa.
