The loco pilot who operated the upgraded Vande Bharat 2.0 train to Ahmedabad after Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged it off from nearby Gandhinagar in Gujarat on Friday morning said it was the "most memorable event" of his life. Satish Sarin, a loco pilot (rail lingo for driver of electric traction train) posted in Western Railway's Ahmedabad division, said the prime minister interacted with him and his co-pilot KK Thakur for a few minutes and took a lowdown of the various features of the state-of-the-art train and aspects of piloting it. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw a few weeks ago inspected the Vande Bharat trains being manufactured at the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai. After finding all okay, he handed them over to the R&D wing of the Railway, Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) in Lucknow. The RDSO will examine the trains and after being fully satisfied, it will give safety clearance, paving the way for rolling out the trains.

The Railways' target is to begin a regular production of Vande Bharat trains from October with manufacture of two to three trains per month, to five to eight in the coming months, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Friday. The Railways has set a target of manufacturing 75 such trains by August 2023. The newest train has completed all its trials and is ready to run commercially. Sources said that it is likely to be run between Mumbai and Ahmedabad and will be officially launched later this month. Addressing a press briefing, Vaishnaw said that the new train comes with much advanced features. The third Vande Bharat train, which has completed its trials and is fit to be operated commercially, will zoom from 0-100 kmph in 52 seconds as compared to the earlier version which attained the same speed in 54.6 seconds.
