4 criminals dead in encounter with Delhi Police

Four criminals were killed and one injured in an ongoing encounter between the Special Cell of Delhi Police and Rajesh Bharti Gang here on Saturday.Meanwhile, six police personnel were injured in the encounter.According to reports, the encounter took place in South Delhi's Chhatarpur area. The criminals allegedly opened fire as soon as the police arrived at the spot.Rajesh Bharti, the leader of the gang, has been called a habitual criminal by the police.As of now, the area has been cordoned off.Further details are awaited.

Afghanistan: 6 militants killed in US drone strikes

At least six militants, affiliated with Islamic State-Khorasan (IS-K), have been killed in US drone strikes in eastern Nangarhar province of Afghanistan.The militants were killed on Friday in the vicinity of Deh Bala district, reported Khaama Press, citing 201st Silab Corps of the Afghan Military, as saying.The US forces carried out airstrikes on IS hideouts using unmanned aerial vehicles.According to the report, at least two hideouts of the terror group were also destroyed during the airstrikes.This comes in tandem with various ongoing counter-terrorism operations in certain provinces as the militant and terrorist groups are attempting to expand their insurgency activities.The US military based in Afghanistan also conduct regular airstrikes against the IS, Taliban, and other militant and terrorist groups.The airstrikes are conducted using unmanned aerial vehicles to clamp down the militants, according to the reports.

Taliban raid on Afghan military base kills 17: officials

At least 17 Afghan soldiers were killed when Taliban fighters stormed a military base in western Afghanistan, hours before the group announced a ceasefire, officials said today. The Taliban claimed the last night attack, which Herat provincial governor spokesman Jilani Farhad told AFP killed 17 members of the Afghan security forces and wounded another. There also were a number of Taliban casualties in the Zawol district ambush, Farhad said, but he could not provide exact figures. Zawol district governor Mohammad Saeed Sarwari confirmed the attack and the death toll. "The Taliban confiscated weapons following the attack," Sarwari told AFP. Taliban announces 3-day Eid ceasefire

Taliban agrees to unprecedented ceasefire with Afghan forces for Eid

The Taliban announced its first ceasefire in Afghanistan since the 2001 US invasion on Saturday, with a three-day halt in hostilities against the country's security forces that was greeted with relief by war-weary Afghans. Israeli troops kill 4, injures over 600 Palestinians

Canada says no longer aiding Iraqi Kurds

Canadian special forces have ended their training support for Iraqi Kurdish peshmerga fighters, the defence department confirmed today, after Ottawa suspended the assistance in October. Canada is part of the United States-led international coalition against the Islamic State group in Iraq and Syria, which has trained and assisted local forces while conducting air strikes against the jihadists, whose self-proclaimed "caliphate" has collapsed. "The Special Operations Task Force has partnered with Kurdish units of the Iraqi security forces in the past," the Department of National Defence said in a statement. This assistance contributed "to the greater Iraqi security forces successes" in recapturing Iraq's second city, Mosul, and then in October freeing Hawija, the IS's last urban stronghold in Iraq, it said. An American special operations soldier was killed today in an attack in Somalia that also wounded four US military personnel along with a Somali soldier, a US defence official told AFP. Suspected jihadists kill six in Cameroon

Six villagers were killed overnight in northern Cameroon in an attack attributed to NIgeria's Boko Haram jihadist group, a local leader said today. The attack occurred in the village of Mangave Foya, said Abdoulaye Yerima Bakari, the head of the Dogba administrative region. "They attacked the home of a district chief, whom they shot, as well as two other people" who were in the building, he said.
