One person was today killed while four others injured when a jeep collided with a bus in Bihar's Muzaffarpur district, police said. An Afghan official says a roadside bomb has killed five people in eastern Nangarhar province. Attaullah Khogyani, spokesman for the provincial governor, says the explosion struck a vehicle in the Aska Mina district today, killing the five and also wounding 14 civilians. He says women and children are among the victims. No one immediately took responsibility for the bombing but Khogyani blamed the Taliban, saying they regularly plant roadside bombs targeting Afghan officials and security forces. Police have arrested six people for smuggling bovines in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri and Poonch districts. Fifty-five bovines were rescued by the police, they said. Police teams of Mendhar sub division in Poonch district intercepted three vehicles carrying the animals near Mendhar bye-pass road while two others were intercepted at Ari road last night. All the vehicles were seized and six people were arrested in the case, the police said, adding a case was registered. The accused were identified as Nisar Hussain, Javed Iqbal, Mohd Mushtaq, Mohd Khursheed and Mohd Taj. In another incident, a police team rescued 18 bovines from three vehicle during routine patrolling on Thanamandi road, the police said. The vehicles were seized, they said.

Senior Indian Army commanders today discussed the increase in ceasefire violations along the Line of Control, the volatile situation in Kashmir Valley, and the challenges faced by security forces, particularly along the borders with China and Pakistan. The Haryana Police has asked the state government to constitute a separate battalion dedicated to providing relief when disasters occur, the state's police chief said. "The police department has sent a proposal to state government for constituting Disaster Reserve Battalion (DRB)," Director General of Police B S Sandhu. The DGP also said that recruitment to 6,647 posts of constables and 463 posts of Sub-Inspectors in Haryana Police would be made mainly on the basis of written examination whereas the physical test would only be of qualifying nature. The marks of physical test would not be included in finalising the merit list and this recruitment process would soon be completed, he said. Sandhu said that passing out parade of 4,300 newly recruited constables, who were under training, would be held in the first week of May. Five people kidnapped from a voter registration centre in a largely Taliban-controlled area of Afghanistan were freed today, officials said. Gunmen attacked the facility in the central province of Ghor on Tuesday, abducting three employees of the Independent Election Commission and two policemen. Pakistan today said Afghan authorities have returned the bodies of five of its paramilitary soldiers who were killed in a border clash this week. Pakistan's Foreign Office (FO) spokesman Mohammad Faisal said Frontier Corps (FC) troops deployed along Pak-Afghan border at Kurram area came under fire from the Afghan side last Sunday while they were on routine patrolling and fencing activity on the border. "The Afghan border security forces, assisted by Afghan tribesmen, fired on our troops resulting in 'shahadat' (martyrdom) of five soldiers," he said.
