Locals in Ambala express gratitude towards sanitary workers

Ambala (Haryana), Apr 10(ANI): Locals in Ambala offered garlands to the sanitation workers and applauded them by clapping and showering flower petals on them. One of the sanitary workers said that he was overwhelmed with this gesture. "I would request everyone to please stay at home so that we can win this fight against COVID-19," he said. Locals requested the government to facilitate all sanitary workers amid coronavirus fight.

Hotspots in Delhi under strict vigilance

New Delhi, Apr 10(ANI): Amid coronavirus outbreak, multiple hotspots in Delhi have been sealed to contain the spread of coronavirus. Following which, shops remained closed in the Bengali Market and Sadar Bazar area on April 10. The areas have been sealed following the orders of Delhi Government under the containment plan to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Delhi Police has cordoned both the areas to restrict movement of people. Delhi has so far reported 720 COVID-19 cases and 12 deaths due to coronavirus.

11 lakh construction workers in UP get Rs 1,000 each: CM Yogi

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), Apr 10(ANI): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath announced that government had decided to extend help to those people whose livelihood was affected badly due to COVID-19. He said, "More than 11 lakh construction workers in the state have been provided Rs 1,000 each in their accounts," said Yogi Adityanath.

COVID-19: 4-step safety station installed outside wheat procurement building in Sangrur

Sangrur (Punjab), Apr 10 (ANI): Sangrur district administration has installed a COVID-19 safety station at a local administrative complex. Station is ready to sanitise people who will visit for wheat procurement in the building. The safety station will sanitise the person in four steps with first being an infrared thermal scanner that will record the temperature of the person. At the second level, foot-operated wash basin has been installed to wash hands without touching the tap. Then the person will go through concentrated sodium hypochlorite solution which will be sprayed on the person's body. At last, the person will go through a booth where ceiling fan facility and hand dryers are available to dry oneself. The preventive measures have been taken to contain coronavirus pandemic. The Punjab government has extended the crop procurement date from April 15 to June 15.

COVID-19: TN Police accords Guard of Honour to sanitisation workers in Tirunelveli

Tirunelveli (TN), Apr 10 (ANI): As a gesture, Tamil Nadu Police accorded the Guard of Honour to the sanitation workers of Tirunelveli Corporation who are on the frontline in the fight against COVID-19. The Guard of Honour was administered by Tirunelveli Deputy Commissioner of Police Saravan. The Honour was given at the Tirunelveli Corporation office. The nation is battling heavy contagious disease which has spread all across the globe.

Promising advance in depression research

New Delhi, Apr 10 (ANI): A recent study suggests that a particular protein, GPR56, is involved in the biology of depression and the effect of antidepressants. The researchers believe that this protein could offer a novel target for new antidepressant drugs. Depression is a common psychiatric disorder and one of the leading causes of disability worldwide. Antidepressants are the first-line treatment for moderate to severe major depressive episodes. Despite their effectiveness, only 40% of patients respond to the first antidepressant they try. Mental illness associated with the risk of addiction and an increased risk of suicide.

Superwomen working round the clock to provide masks for all

New Delhi, Apr 10 (ANI): While the whole world is locked down at their homes since the coronavirus outbreak, 15 women of the Goonj Foundation are working round the clock to make masks in order to cater to the needs of the distressed poor people. The masks are being made of cotton cloth which sandwiches the fusing paper. Apart from masks, the NGO is also giving grocery kits which include wheat, rice and spices. Goonj started with making 400-500 masks daily but now they have reached 1200 masks and in next 2-3 days they are planning to achieve 1500 masks per day. Goonj is an NGO started by Magsaysay awardee Anshu Gupta. As the country is under lockdown, Delhi government on Wednesday made wearing face masks compulsory in the national capital for anyone stepping out of house.

New emoji characters to be delayed over COVID-19 outbreak: Unicode

New Delhi, Apr 10 (ANI): If you were hoping for a set of new emoji to express yourself in the digital world then your wait just got longer. Unicode Consortium, the corporation behind introducing new emoji characters, has decided to postpone the release of version 14.0 of the Unicode Standard by six months, from March to September of 2021, impacting new emoji characters, the official release notes. New emoji characters incorporated in Emoji 14.0 would appear on phones and other devices in 2022. The decision does not affect the new emoji included in the version 13.0, announced on March 10.

Punjab Police becomes ray of hope for labourers amid COVID-19 outbreak

Amritsar, Apr 09 (ANI): Amid coronavirus lockdown, Punjab Police came forward to help labourers. They cooked food in a community kitchen and then distributed among the labourers in the city. The labourers were seen observing social distancing while getting the food. Punjab police also fed the food to stray animals. A total of 101 positive cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in Punjab as of now.

COVID-19 outbreak: CM Kejriwal warns people who misbehave with doctors, nurses

New Delhi, Apr 09 (ANI): After two female doctors of Safdarjung Hospital allegedly assaulted by their neighbor, Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal warned such people who misbehave with doctors and nurses. CM Kejriwal said, "An incident came in light where two female doctors of Safdarjung Hospital, who are treating patients of coronavirus, were allegedly assaulted by their neighbour in Gautam Nagar. We will not tolerate such sort of incident. These doctors are working hard. We should thank them instead of assaulting them. That person who assaulted the doctors, is arrested. I would like to warn people who misbehave with doctors or nurses that it won't be tolerated. They'll be given strictest punishment."

1,30,000 samples tested so far, out of these 5,734 samples tested positive: ICMR

New Delhi, Apr 09(ANI): Home Ministry Joint Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava confirmed that amid nationwide lockdown, all state governments are taking required measures for the stranded people. Helpline numbers, food camps, shelters, relief camps are some of the initiatives Punya highlighted. ICMR further informed that around 1,30,000 samples have been tested so far and out of these 5,734 samples have been tested positive till date. "Positivity rate (for coronavirus) ranges between 3-5% in the last 1-1.5 months. It has not increased substantially," said ICMR.

New Delhi, Apr 09 (ANI): Joint Secretary of Health Ministry Lav Agrawal, while addressing a press conference in the national capital on April 09 informed that the supplies of PPEs, masks, and ventilators have now begun. 20 domestic manufacturers in India have been developed for PPEs, orders for 1.7 crore PPEs have been placed and the supplies have begun. 49,000 ventilators have been ordered.

New Delhi, Apr 09 (ANI): Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia inspected MCD school in Shashi Garden area on April 09. While talking about on the food supply to needy families, Sisodia said, "Today the work involving distribution of ration to those people who don't have ration card has begun. In some schools it was started yesterday and from today, it has started in more schools. The work will be in full swing from tomorrow. 4 kg of wheat and 1 kg of rice are being given to needy through online registration. There are applications from 16 lakh people".

Total 5734 confirmed cases of COVID-19, 549 new cases in last 24 hours: Health Ministry

New Delhi, Apr 09 (ANI): Joint Secretary of Health Ministry Lav Agrawal, while addressing a press conference in the national capital on April 09 informed that till now, 473 people have been recovered and discharged from the hospital that were infected with the deadly coronavirus. He further added, "Total 5734 confirmed cases reported in the country till date, 549 new cases in the last 24 hours. 166 deaths have been reported till dates, 17 deaths since yesterday". Further talking about the involvement of Indian Railways in fight against coronavirus, Agrawal said, "Railways have deployed more than 2,500 doctors and 35,000 paramedics staff. Their chain of 586 health units, 45 sub divisional hospitals,56 divisional hospitals,8 production unit hospitals and 16 zonal hospitals are dedicating their significant facilities to fight COVID-19".
