Who is Anupam Kher?
An Indian actor born on March 7, 1955, in a Hindu Kashmiri Pandit family, Anupam Kher is an alumnus of the National School of Drama. He has previously held the positions of the chairman of Film and Television Institute of India (2017-18) and chairman of the Censor Board of India (2003-04). He stepped down as the FTII chief citing work commitments for the American TV show New Amsterdam. He has also received the Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri awards from the government of India for his contribution to cinema and fine arts.
Anupam Kher is a vocal about political subjects and was often seen campaigning actively for his wife in 2014. Many saw this as a precursor to his own political foray, but the actor has maintained a distance from that arena.

Anupam Kher was educated at D A V School in Shimla. He studied economics at Government College, Sanjauli at the Himachal Pradesh University in Shimla, but dropped out to study Indian theatre at Panjab University, Chandigarh.
In 1978, Kher graduated from the National School of Drama (NSD), New Delhi. Some of his early roles were in plays performed at the Himachal Pradesh University. He taught drama at Raj Bisaria's Bharatendu Natya Akademi in Lucknow for a small part in his directorial debut movie Sheeshay ka Ghar.
Career
Anupam Kher made his acting debut in 1984 with Mahesh Bhatt-directed film 'Saaransh' in which he portrayed a 65-year-old retired middle class teacher who loses his son. From 1985 to 1988, Kher worked in several movies. For his role in Daddy (1989), he received the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Performance.
Kher's performance as Shyam Lal in action thriller Tezaab (1988) was highly appreciated.
Besides working in Hindi films, he has also appeared in international films such as the Golden Globe nominated Bend It Like Beckham (2002), Ang Lee's Golden Lion–winning Lust, Caution (2007), David O Russell's Oscar-winning Silver Linings Playbook (2012) and Anthony Maras' Hotel Mumbai (2019). He received a BAFTA nomination for his supporting role in the British television sitcom The Boy with the Topknot (2018).
The actor also starred in the movie 'The Accidental Prime Minister' which was based on the former Indian Prime minister Manmohan Singh.
Kher worked in the Vivek Agnihotri's The Kashmir Files (2022) which is based on Kashmiri Pandits' genocide in 1990, the film became a huge box office success.
