Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India, the two-wheeler arm of Japan's Honda Motor Co, expects to create over 3,800 jobs in India as it expands overall annual production capacity to 80 lakh units by 2028, according to its President & CEO Tsutsumu Otani. With India increasingly becoming an important part of Honda's global manufacturing and export strategy, its production capacity is designed not only to cater to domestic demand but also to support growing international markets, Otani told PTI in an interview. While electric mobility remains an important pillar of Honda's long-term vision, he said the company remains committed to a balanced, multi-pathway approach encompassing ICE, electrification, and alternative fuel technologies in India. "India is an increasingly important part of Honda's global manufacturing and export strategy. Two-wheeler maker Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) on Wednesday said its total sales in June grew 23 per cent to 5,28,281 units in June compared to 4,29,147 motorcycles and scooters sold in the same month of 2025. Domestic sales stood at 4.68 lakh units during the previous month, registering a year-on-year growth of 21 per cent at 4,68,956 vehicles from 3,88,812 units in June 2025. Exports stood at 59,325 units in June 2026, recording a year-on-year growth of 47 per cent compared to the corresponding month last year, the company said. At the same time, the total vehicle sales in the first quarter (April-June) of the current fiscal year rose 17 per cent to 16,11,662 units from 13,75,152 in the same quarter a year earlier, it said. "We have seen healthy growth momentum in the first quarter of FY27 compared to the same period last year, supported by steady underlying demand conditions. Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt Ltd on Monday reported a 12 per cent rise in total sales to 5.18 lakh units in May from 4.65 lakh units in the year-ago period. Domestic sales rose 10 per cent to 4.59 lakh units last month from 4.17 lakh units in May 2025, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) said in a statement. Exports for May 2026 jumped 23.62 per cent to 59,166 units against 47,859 units in the corresponding month last year, it added. "The two-wheeler market witnessed steady demand during the month. Backed by its diverse product portfolio and extensive network of over 7,000 touchpoints across the country, HMSI continues to strengthen customer accessibility and expand its reach across markets" said a statement from HMSI.
Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India on Monday reported a 34 per cent rise in total sales at 5,67,351 units in February 2026 as compared to the same month last year. February sales included 5,13,190 units in domestic sales and 54,161 units in exports, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) said in a statement. This performance reflects strong demand across domestic and international markets for HMSI's product portfolio. For the year-to-date period of FY26 (April 2025-February 2026), HMSI recorded total sales of 58,20,556 units, comprising 52,37,169 units sold domestically and 5,83,387 units exported, the statement said.
Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) on Thursday said price of its models up to 350 cc would come down by up to Rs 18,800 with it passing on the GST rate cut benefit to customers. The company will pass on full benefits of the recent GST rate reduction to its customers across its product portfolio, the company said in a statement. This will include both scooters and motorcycles up to 350 cc category, it added. Following the GST Council's decision to reduce GST on two-wheelers from 28 to 18 per cent, the customers will now enjoy significant ex-showroom price savings of up to Rs 18,800, depending on the model, HMSI said. "The reduction in GST on two-wheelers and spare parts is a timely and forward-looking step, making vehicles more affordable and strengthening the overall ecosystem," HMSI Director, Sales & Marketing, Yogesh Mathur said.
Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) is seeking to increase its market share in the two-wheeler sector in the country through a series of new model launches, a company official said. The company has launched two new motorcycles in the 100cc and 125cc segments in the Indian market. The current market share of HMSI in the two-wheeler sector in the country is 28 per cent, the official said. Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India on Monday said it is recalling certain units of its bike models like CB350 and H'ness CB350 due to issues with wheel speed sensor and camshaft. The company is recalling CB300F, CB300R, CB350, H'ness CB350 and CB350RS, manufactured between October 2020 and April 2024, for issues with wheel speed sensor, the two wheeler major said in a statement. "It has been observed that due to an improper molding procedure being followed, water may seep into the wheel speed sensor. This may lead to a speed sensor malfunction causing error in the speedometer, traction control or ABS intervention," it said. In the worst case scenario, it may result in ineffective braking, it added. Units manufactured from October 2020 to April 2024 are affected under this potential issue, the company said. Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India is looking to enter the electric vehicle segment this fiscal and eyes one-third of its overall sales to accrue from the segment by 2030. Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of 64th SIAM annual session here, HMSI Director (Sales and Marketing) Yogesh Mathur said the company will be entering the EV segment this fiscal. He noted that the contribution of electric two-wheelers in overall two-wheeler sales was continuing to grow. "And what we understand is that by 2030 there will be a major shift towards EVs and we have announced that by 2030 in our lineup also..one-third at least will be coming only from EV models," Mathur said. The EV model is being developed jointly by HMSI and Honda teams, he added. On capacity utilisation at its plants, Mathur said the company's plants were currently running at full capacity.
