Madhya Pradesh is significantly enhancing the generation of green energy, aiming to scale it up to 50 per cent of the total consumption from renewable energy sources, a senior official has said. "Today, we cannot afford to ignore renewable energy. Solar power has become a viable option, and we are committed to significantly enhancing green energy generation in Madhya Pradesh, aiming for 50 per cent of our total power consumption to come from renewable sources, Madhya Pradesh Urja Vikas Nigam Additional Chief Secretary Manu Srivastava said on Friday. The positive impacts of this shift may become evident in the coming years, he said while addressing the inaugural session of the 8th GRIHA Regional Conclave organised by GRIHA (Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment) Council, in Bhopal. The conclave, organised under the 'Innovate to Act for a Climate-Resilient World' theme, brings together a distinguished gathering of policymakers, industry leaders, academics, and sustainability
National targets have barely made progress two years after countries agreed to tripling global renewable energy capacity by 2030, with the total global ambition increasing by just 2 per cent since the pledge, according to a new analysis published on Thursday. The analysis by energy think tank Ember warned that this gap between global ambition and national planning risks undermining climate progress as well as the energy security and economic resilience of countries. According to the tripling goal, a commitment made at COP28 in UAE in 2023, the countries need to increase combined energy generation capacity through renewable means by a factor of three by 2030. The report said that national renewable energy targets now add up to 7.4 terawatts (TW) for 2030, just over double the 3.4 TW installed in 2022. This still falls significantly short of the 11 TW needed to meet the tripling goal. "Tripling global renewable capacity is the biggest action the world can take for climate this decade
A global forum focussed on climate protection has lauded India's progress in the renewable energy sector and said the country has a leadership role in Asia's energy transition. "India has a leadership role in the energy transition in Asia. It's making steady progress on its climate goals, with a focus on solar roll-out. This is encouraging," said Helen Clarkson, CEO of Climate Group-- a not-for-profit international entity. Clarkson, who led the Climate Group Asia Action Summit in Singapore last week, said, "India's progress in renewables is interesting with progress seen in the last few years". India's total installed renewable energy (RE) capacity has reached 220 GW as of FY25, she said, citing the latest data from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE). Solar energy leads the sector, accounting for approximately 48 per cent of the total RE capacity, followed by wind energy (23 per cent), large hydro (22 per cent), bio power (5 per cent) and small hydro (2 per cent), ...
The biogas sector has received investment commitments of more than Rs 200 crore at renewable energy exhibition RenewX 2025, industry body Indian Biogas Association (IBA) said on Sunday. The three-day expo was held at the Chennai Trade Centre, Nandambakkam from April 23 to 25. The event, organised by Informa Markets, saw investment commitments of Rs 200 crore through various MoUs (memorandum of understandings) in the biogas industry, IBA sid in a statement. RenewX brought together stakeholders from across the bioenergy, solar, wind, energy storage, and management sectors, offering a platform for strategic collaborations and progressive discussions. With a focus on bioenergy innovations, sustainable partnerships, and policy dialogue, the bioenergy sector attracted strong interest from industry, professionals, investors, and policymakers, the statement said. "This is the first time that we have showcased biogas sector capabilities in Chennai. Our interactions here have laid the ...
India has realised in recent years that economic growth does not have to rely on high carbon emissions and its solar mission and 2030 renewable energy target are highly ambitious, said Helen Clarkson, Chief Executive Officer of the international non-profit Climate Group. The Climate Group hosts Climate Week NYC, a leading global climate event which brings together leaders from the world of business, technology, politics, academia and civil society. Talking to PTI, Clarkson also said that while India has a net-zero target (balancing emissions with removals) for 2070, there is a need for greater ambition. She suggested that India should align with other countries in moving its net-zero goal forward. "We would like to see more ambition from India. It's been very clear that it has got its Nationally Determined Contributions, but it is talking about net zero by 2070. We would like to see that come forward and align with other countries," she said. Countries are required to submit their

Power producers have asked the government to keep the waiver on inter-state transmission charges for renewable energy until 2030 to help clean energy take root more deeply in India's economy. A consultative meeting chaired by Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi was held on February 5, where Wind Independent Power Producers Association (WIPPA) and other associations shared their concerns and suggestions. A key demand from the players was to extend the waiver on inter-state transmission system (ISTS) charges, which is otherwise due to end on June 30 this year, sources aware of the matter said. Renewable energy players requested MNRE to extend the ISTS waiver till 2030 to promote investments in the sector and aid India's ambitious energy transition goals. Currently, charges are waived for 25 years for green power projects such as solar, wind, and hybrid projects, and battery energy and pump storage projects commissioned before June 30, 2025. The current ISTS waiver he
