The lives of adults are so very complicated. There are several different lists all purporting to enclose within their stern limits the hundred best novels of the century, of the Western world, of the new globalised multicultural world, of all time, depending on preference.
There is even a list of the 100 best novels (compiled by famous authors) that sets new standards for self-consciousness; it should be read in the same manner in which you approach the more pretentious wine lists.
