In an endeavour to provide low-cost human aid devices for the differently abled, Kanpur-based Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (Alimco) has introduced gadgets like electronic limbs and motorised wheelchair.
Chief managing director of Alimco Brigadier Jagmohan Uppal said the corporation had also developed a prototype motor-driven wheelchair. The company has tied up with US universities and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT),Guwahati, for technology upgradation and knowledge sharing.
“The IIT students will undergo summer training at Alimco and share the skills useful for technology development,” said Uppal. The trial for electric hand designed in collaboration with IIT, Kanpur, has also started, apart from handy walking stick and light-weight folding wheelchairs.
Meanwhile, Alimco is all set to expand its manufacturing base by setting up four new auxiliary production centres and a model production centre at Ujjain.
