State-run NTPC today commissioned a 490-Mw unit under its thermal power project at Dadri, in Uttar Pradesh, which will ensure uninterrupted power supply for the upcoming Commonwealth Games (CWG).
Delhi will require an extra 1,000 Mw per day of electricity to tide over the augmented demand during the Games. At present, power consumption in the capital is about 4,000 Mw per day.
Power generated from the Dadri plant will mainly cater to electricity demand for the upcoming Commonwealth Games. Out of the entire 2,400-Mw generation capacity, 90 per cent of the output will be supplied to Delhi, while Uttar Pradesh will get 10 per cent.
Power Minister Sushilkumar Shinde inaugurated the 490-Mw unit of the Dadri project.
With the commissioning of this project, the total installed capacity of NTPC stands increased to 32,194 Mw, Chairman and Managing Director R S Sharma said here.
