How is helping users buy smart, online

Sulakshan Kumar started MySmartPrice with just two laptops and an Internet connection

When the Indian e-commerce sector was in its sunrise stage in 2010, and players like Flipkart and Snapdeal were raising large funds and building on their customer base through aggressive marketing and discounts, Sulakshan Kumar, along with his friend and fellow alumnus Sitakanta Ray from NIIT-Rourkela, thought about solving the problem of ‘where to buy’? for users.

The duo did rigorous research on the rise of price comparison services such as Nextag in the US and in the UK that help users find the best price of products across all shopping sites, and realised that these price comparison and similar affiliate services, in fact, contribute nearly 20% to the total e-commerce business in developed markets.

Thus was born Hyderabad-based price comparison portal, MySmartPrice, in October 2010. Unlike most e-commerce biggies, MySmartPrice started with just two laptops and an Internet connection. Today, it helps over 10 million unique users find what to buy online.

Sulakshan Kumar, with a BE in mechanical engineering, worked as a software development manager in Oracle and then moved to Infosys where he worked as a senior consultant for enterprise solutions. Later, he worked in presales and consulting for two years, before starting MySmartPrice.
