Tata Motors has chosen Tiago as the new name for its yet-to-be-launched compact hatchback after it was forced to withdrew the Zica branding for sounding similar to the deadly virus ZiKa.

The Mumbai-based company launched a social media-based name-hunt contest early this month asking people to suggest a new name for the car.

The company received more than 37,000 suggestions during the three day activity where by the end three names were shortlisted - Adore, Civet and Tiago. Tiago was chosen after Tata Motors asked to people to vote.

The company had originally planned to commercially launch the hatchback before end of January. However, the company later chose the Auto Expo for the launch, according to sources.

While the company has not specified a launch date yet the car is expected to be launched in the next 1-2 months, added sources.
