CBI vs CBI: SC orders CVC to complete Alok Verma probe in two weeks

Apex court also curtails powers of interim CBI boss

The Supreme Court on Friday said it would supervise the inquiry against CBI Director Alok Verma and the probe should conclude in two weeks. It also appointed former Supreme Court judge Justice A K Patnaik to monitor the investigation.

The matter will be heard again on November 12.

The Bench, presided over by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi, stated that M Nageswar Rao, who has been put in temporary charge in place of Verma, would not take any major policy decision. He will take decisions only on routine matters essential to keep the agency functioning.
