Data story: India logs 16,159 new Covid cases; active tally at 115,212

India reported an increase of 737 in active coronavirus cases to take its count to 115,212. The country is twenty-fourth among the most affected countries globally by active cases. On July 6, it added 16,159 cases to take its total caseload to 43,547,809. And, with 28 new fatalities, its Covid-19 death toll reached 525,270, or 1.21 per cent of total confirmed infections.

With 995,810 more Covid-19 vaccine doses being administered on July 5, India’s total count of vaccine shots so far reached 1,982,086,763. The count of recovered coronavirus cases across India, meanwhile, reached 42,907,327 — or 98.53 per cent of the total caseload — with 15,394 new cured cases being reported on July 6.
