Submit details of drivers, vehicles: Delhi High Court

The reports of the verifications are to be placed before the court by the authorities concerned on the date of the next hearing

Non-adversarial tax regime ahead

The Delhi High Court on Tuesday ordered all taxi aggregators and operators to submit a comprehensive list of their drivers along with their details, including licences, in the national capital region (NCR) for police verification. The aggregators were also directed to submit the details of vehicle registrations and insurance policies to be verified by the transport department. The reports of the verifications are to be placed before the court by the authorities concerned on the date of the next hearing.

The court was hearing arguments in a petition filed by taxi service provider Magic Seva Private Limited against surge fare pricing and compliance failures by taxi aggregators in the Capital.

The petitioners expressed their objections to the violations of the City Taxi Scheme, 2015, by taxi aggregators and critiqued their regulatory mechanisms in the selection of drivers and vehicles. They brought forth specific examples of drivers conducting operations without valid drivers' licences and plying of diesel taxis even after the ban by the Supreme Court, all under the banner of the aggregators.

They further highlighted violations by the aggregators of the mandatory taxi fare regime implemented by the Delhi government under Section 67 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and sought parity in the regulation of taxi services in the city.
