The shortage of skilled labour is hurting production at India’s auto component firms as demand shows signs of recovery, said an industry leader on Wednesday.
The shortage is the fallout of migration of labour from big cities to towns during the lockdown to contain the coronavirus pandemic, said Deepak Jain, president Auto Component Manufacturers Association at a webinar on performance of auto component industry.
The auto component industry employs around 5 million people and it accounts for 2.5 per cent of country's GDP; 25 per cent of its manufacturing GDP and 4 per cent of exports. Jain said productivity has
