Blasts aimed at creating communal divide: Left

Press Trust of India New Delhi

"The country wants to know from the central government why it has failed, even after so many attacks, to track down and nail the terrorists," the CPI(M) Politburo said in a statement here.

It also wanted to know what were the "weaknesses" in the intelligence set-up, coordination with state governments and the urgent steps required to be taken.

"Coming just a day after the Bangalore blasts and the earlier blasts in Jaipur, it is evident that the terrorist network is bent upon a course of destabilisation and causing communal discord in the country," the CPI(M) said.

The CPI Central Secretariat also described the blasts as "an evil design to destabilise the country and disrupt social harmony. Targeting of common people is definitely aimed at creating scare and strife among them."

Asking the Centre and the state governments to work in coordination and conduct a thorough probe of these incidents "instead of blaming each other", the CPI demanded that action be taken to bring the culprits to book without further delay.

Expressing grief and condolences to the affected families, both the CPI(M) and the CPI also appealed to the people to maintain calm and peace and "foil the nefarious designs of the terrorists to create communal divisions among our people."
