Mounting under the pressure of the opposition party and the family members, Chhattisgarh government on Wednesday ordered a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the death of Indian Police Service officer Rahul Sharma.

The 2002-batch IPS officer committed suicide by shooting himself with his service revolver on Monday. The opposition Congress had been alleging that Sharma died in mysterious circumstances and hence a high level probe was necessitated to bring the facts out. The Congress members on Tuesday did not allow any business to transact in the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly (CLA) demanding a CBI probe into the matter. The state Congress President, Nandkumar Patel had threatened to call for a state bandh if the state government failed to announce CBI probe in two days.
