Congress to hold meet to discuss Indo-US nuclear deal

National Security Advisor M K Narayanan and Prime Minister's special envoy on the Indo-US nuclear deal Shyam Saran will address a Congress meet here tomorrow which is expected to bring the issue on the forefront ahead of a series of elections.     

AICC General Secretary Rahul Gandhi is expected to set the tone for the campaign during the day-long meet to train party spokespersons on various issues with special focus on the nuclear deal.     

External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee will speak on nuclear agreement and its impact on the country besides a power point presentation by experts on the issue.      

Narayanan will speak on "Indian nuclear programme... achievements, capabilities and requirements — 123 agreement and IAEA safeguards".     

 

Noted energy expert and Planning Commission member Kirit Parekh will dwell on comprehensive energy security package for India.      

Another highlight at the orientation workshop is the address by Finance Minister P Chidambaram on the paradigm change brought about in economic development and combating inflation.     

The workshop, which will be summed up by AICC media department chief M Veerappa Moily, will also feature a comparison of achievements of the UPA and NDA by party General Secretary Digvijay Singh.     

For Gandhi it will be another opportunity to interact with state party leaders on the Indo-US nuclear issue which is close to his heart.
