While All India exports figures have declined, the figures from Chennai, rose by 11% quarter on quarter to Rs 30,000 crore. This was driven by automobile sector.
Mala Srivatsav, chief commissioner of Customs, Chennai said that the figure has increased from Rs 27,000 crore to Rs 30,000 crore. "While All India figures were dropped, this comes as a positive news," she said.
Speaking at an event organised by FIEO and CII in Chennai today, she said that apart from traditional markets, diversification to exports to new markets like Sri Lanka and South Africa have helped.
She noted, export growth came on increase in duty drawback, which rose to Rs 700 crore from Rs 400 crore, quarter on quarter.
