Junagadh Agriculture University (JAU) will soon start FM radio channel for farmers that will broadcast knowledge-based programmes on agriculture. The university claimed that this is the first time that someone in Gujarat is starting a dedicated FM channel for agriculture.

"We have already applied for license to the ministry of broadcasting, government of India. Once we get permission, we will have our own radio channel like any other FM.", said N C Patel, vice chancellor of JAU. He added that the service will be available in the range of 50 km of Junagadh city where JAU located.

The university has already set up a studio and tower for FM radio station at its premises. Patel further added, "Few years back we had proposed the state government to start an FM radio channel for the farmers. The government had agreed to provide 100 percent funding for this project. So, far We have spent around Rs 20-25 lakh to set up the studio."

For starters, university will broadcast four hours of programs during the day, which would be gradually increased. Further, JAU is planning to start such station in every district of Saurashtra region.

"We are considering to start FM station in every district but that will take time. First, we will start at Junagadh and then if possible we will go to other place", Patel said adding that it will broadcast programs on weather report, how to take care of various crops, university research, new style of farming and many more on the channel.

JAU is also planning to add some entertainment content to its programs on the channel. The university will promote and invite local entertainers for the purpose.
