For the two-year-old publications division of the Karnataka State Open University (KSOU), publication of a book in less than a month average is a pointer of its good strides in short span.
'Prasaranga’, the publications division, has brought out 36 books so far and another 30 are slated for release. It is also making arrangements to release the first two volumes of the four-volume series on the history of Mysore, a mega project.
Publications by universities are generally viewed as academically merited books and the 36 titles published by the Prasaranga are no exception to this. All its publications are of merit; so also its 30 titles slated for release soon.
All in uniform one-eighth demy size using lightweight printing paper, these books are priced moderately so that it could suit the pocket of the book lovers and the KSOU student community. The latter are offered a 25 per cent discount as well. Individuals or educational institutions buying directly from the ‘Prasaranga’ are given 15 per cent discount on the face value of these books.
Marketing strategies by universities and government agencies are generally poor. It is only now the publication wings of universities have begun to reach readers by showcasing their books.
