Former Union minister A Raja’s nephew Deepak Pushpanathan (30) on Thursday died while working out in a Chennai gym. It may be noted the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), investigating the 2G spectrum case, had raided his house along with those of Raja and his associate Sadhick Batcha in December 2010.
Batcha was found hanging in his Chennai residence on March 17, 2011. Sources said Pushpanathan complained of chest pain and was taken to a private hospital where he was declared dead. The victim’s mother Vijayalakshmi Pushpanathan is Raja’s elder sister.
Deepak’s family has not yet registered a police complaint. Pushpanathan was associated with DB Etisalat, a company under the CBI’s scanner in the 2G scam case. His house was raided in December 2010. Source said while exercising, he complained to the instructor of discomfort and chest pain. He was immediately rushed to a nearby private hospital, but suffered a cardiac arrest on the way and was declared dead on arrival.
According to family members, he was a diabetic and also suffering from low blood pressure. He leaves behind his wife Roshini Kamdar and two-year-old daughter Diya.
