			Karnataka, it appears, has emerged as the biggest hotspot for illegal cash transactions in the country post the demonetisation announcement and probes by the income tax department have revealed that Bangalore reported the highest cases of undisclosed cash in new denominations.</div>

			The income tax department has carried out &lsquo;swift investigations&rsquo; in more than 400 cases and over Rs 130 crore in cash and jewellery have been unearthed as well as Rs 2,000 crore of undisclosed income admitted by tax evaders.</div>

			The biggest stash of new currency was unearthed in Bengaluru after a 30 November raid on two state government engineers lead to the seizing of Rs 4.7 crore in new Rs 2,000 currency notes, apart from 7 kg of gold and bullion and Rs 90 lakh in old demonetised currency, the Bengaluru division of the IT department said on 1 December. But apart from just babus, even BJP leaders have been caught red headed with undisclosed new notes.</div>

			More than 30 such cases have been referred to the ED and are being sent to the CBI.</div>

			Of these, the Bengaluru Investigation Unit of the Income Tax Department has sent the most (18) references to the ED. The Ludhiana and Bhopal units referred two cases each, while the Hyderabad and Pune units referred a case each</div>

			On the very next day after Prime minister&rsquo;s demonetisation announcement, Chairperson of Chhabra Municipality in Baran disttrict Jitendra Kumar Sahu and his wife were caught by the Anti-corruption bureau for taking a bribe of Rs 1 lakh in old Rs 1,000 notes, reported the <a href="http://www.hindustantimes.com/jaipur/rajasthan-bjp-leader-caught-with-rs-1-lakh-bribe-all-in-rs-1-000-notes/story-xTVQF2i968hyiziCy53SfP.html" target="_blank">Hindustan Times</a>. &nbsp;Pinky Sahu, belonging to the Bharatiya Janata Party, was elected as the chairperson of the Chhabra Municipality on November 2014, in the Other Backward Caste category.</div>

			<strong>Rs 20 lakh seized from BJP youth leader who backed demonetisation</strong></div>

			Arun, BJP youth wing secretary from Salem, Tamil Nadu had been actively campaigning in favour of prime minister Narendra Modi&rsquo;s demonetisation drive and was even ready to stand in queue outside bank. The <a href="http://indianexpress.com/article/india/india-news-india/twenty-lakh-rupees-seized-from-bjp-youth-leader-who-backed-demonetisation-4404197/" target="_blank">Indian Express</a> reported that he was arrested by Tamil Nadu Police with several bundles of currency notes worth Rs 20.55 lakh out of which there were 926 pieces of Rs 2,000, 1530 of Rs 100 and 1,000 of Rs 50 notes.</div>

			<strong>BJP leader arrested in Bengal with Rs 33 lakh in new Rs 2,000 notes</strong></div>

			Manish Sharma, BJP leader in West Bengal, was arrested by police while carrying currency worth Rs 33 lakh in new Rs 2,000 notes earlier this week, reported <a href="http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/kolkata/BJP-leader-arrested-along-with-coal-mafia-for-carrying-Rs-33-lakh/articleshow/55841592.cms" target="_blank">The Times of India</a>. According to a report by livehindustan.com, the police also found seven fire arms, 89 round bullets from them. The police also found new notes of Rs 2,000 worth Rs 10 lakh from Sharma&#39;s car. The police also found notes of Rs 50 and Rs 100 from the BJP leader.</div>

			Cash worth Rs 91.50 lakh in recalled currency denominations of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 were seized from a vehicle of Maharashtra Minister for Cooperation Subhash Deskhmukh who looks after the cooperative sector, reported <a href="http://www.financialexpress.com/india-news/rs-92-lakh-in-cash-seized-from-bjp-ministers-vehicle-in-maharashtra-demonetisation-effect/448929/" target="_blank">Financial Express</a> on 18 November.</div>
