UP yet to identify 84 lakh people to be given subsidised food

Uttar Pradesh (UP) government has not yet identified 84 lakh people, who would be given subsidised foodgrain under the National Food Security Act, Lok Sabha was informed on Tuesday.

MoS for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution C R Chaudhary said that the Centre has provided adequate foodgrain to the UP government for distribution among the poor people in the state.

"I want to tell to the UP government that 69.6% rural and 64.5% urban population have to be covered. But unfortunately, all these people have not been covered yet. As of now the UP government has to identify 84 lakh people whom the subsidised food will be distributed," he said during Question Hour.

Chaudhary said the Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Ministry has conveyed to the state government to complete the process as early as possible.

"The state government has been given foodgrain regularly.

There is no shortage of foodgrain. Whatever the UP government is asking, we are giving. But 84 lakh people should be covered, which has not been completed. That is why we would like to request the UP government to complete the process," he said.
