Except SBI all other major lenders have not levied charges


Starting Saturday, you may have to pay up for using automated teller machines (ATMs) at your home bank ATMs as well. According to guidelines by RBI, banks are free to charge their customers after the first five free transactions.<br />

However, RBI has stated banks can still choose to offer more than five free transactions, if they so wished. Currently, none of the banks, barring State bank of India (SBI), the country&rsquo;s largest lender, has decided to charge their customers for ATM usage.

Thesetransactions mean both financial and non-financial - balance enquiry, change ofPIN, mini statement, etc"Banks are playing the wait andwatch game now. Even though it has been allowed by the regulator the lendersare waiting to see that who makes the first move. As a result, several bankshave decided not to charge as of now," said a bank official from a privatesector ban
