Bandipora encounter: Police officer heading SIT killed

A police officer who was heading a Special Investigation Team (SIT), was killed on Wednesday in a shootout in Gund Dachin area of Bandipora in north Kashmir.

According to official sources, a special police team from Rajbagh was chasing militants in the district. The police team fired at the vehicle carrying the militants to intercept it. The militants retaliated, which resulted in a brief shootout.

Police Inspector Altaf Ahmad sustained serious bullet injuries and was rushed to a hospital for treatment, but succumbed to his injuries.
