Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Ashish Shelar on Thursday appointed as the next Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) president.

The post was vacant after Sharad Pawar resigned on December 17 last year after Supreme Court's order. As per the order, he was not eligible for the job as he had crossed 70 years age.

Shelar, who is the president of Mumbai unit of BJP, was elected as vice-president of the association on 17 June 2015.

He is also Chairman of Mumbai district football association representing more than 300 football clubs.

Earlier this week, former India captain Dilip Vengsarkar stepped down as vice-president of the MCA.
