Delhi HC to hear plea seeking entry of women in Nizamuddin Dargah on Dec 10

ANI  |  New Delhi, [India]

High Court will hear a plea seeking the entry of women into the sanctorum of Aulia shrine in New on December 10.

The plea was filed on Thursday by a group of from Pune requesting the Centre and other authorities to remove the ban on the entry of women in the Aulia shrine.

The petition claimed that the tried to reach out to authorities over the matter, including the Police but decided to move the court after not receiving any response.

In their plea the women contended that Nizamuddin Dargah is a public place and prohibiting women from entering into a shrine is gender discrimination and thus highly unconstitutional.

The plea further cited the example of two major Muslim shrines - Haji in Mumbai and in Ajmer - which don't restrict the entry of women.
