Martin Scorsese's latest film 'The Wolf of Wall Street' has failed to impress audience at an Academy screening.

Senior Oscar voters at an Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences screening branded the 71-year-old American film director's new black comedy as "disgusting", Radar Online reported.

One of the screenwriters even confronted him after the event held at the Samuel Goldwyn Theatre in Los Angeles.

The film starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill is based on Jordan Belfort's real-life memoir of his rise to riches on Wall Street and contains explicit sex and drug-use scenes.
