The Assam Police and the army, working in a joint operation, arrested seven top militants of the banned terror outfit Karbi People's Liberation Tigers (KPLT) on Monday.

According to reports, the militants were caught from the Amring forest area in the Hamren subdivision, after a fierce fight between the insurgents and the security forces.

Among those caught are KPLT commander in chief Sunder Dera, deputy commander in chief Danger Ingti and the Socheng and Amring area commanders.

The operation also resulted in massive recoveries of arms and ammunition.

The army's Red Horn Division had earlier nabbed the KPLT finance secretary and auditor, along with one cadre of the outfit, from the Karbirongsope village in the Hamren sub division.
