Oommen Chandy, Chief Minister of Kerala along with the actor Manju Warrier who is the goodwill ambassador for 'she-taxi' has flagged off the first service in Kochi on Tuesday.
The aim of the service is to provide with safety to travel across the city along with access to police and medical emergencies.
"She-taxi is a security enabled, safe transport cab and this provides safety, security and safe journey to women and at the same time it also promotes a beautiful women entrepreneurship model for the owners of the vehicle" said, P.T.M Suneesh, Managing Director, Kerala State Women's Development Corporation.
The cab has a Global Positioning System(GPS), precision metering systems and in-car LCD systems. The project has been implemented by the Gender Park under the aegis of Department of Social Justice.
This was initially launched in November 2013 and is now being extended to Kochi post its success in other cities. The organizers now plan to roll out 250+ she taxi cabs in all major cities across the state.
