The Northeast region is home to a number of tribes, each with a distinct culture and rich heritage.

The Adi tribe of Arunachal Pradesh recently celebrated Solung festival, which is associated with farming.

The carnival is celebrated in the first week of September, after the sowing of seeds, to seek prosperity and a good harvest.

Men and women dressed in colourful attires thronged the venue in Itanagar to celebrate the Solung festival.

During the event, cultural troupes from various tribes performed folk dances and songs, which enthralled the audience.

Arunachal Pradesh Governor JP Rajkhowa, who inaugurated the event, said that Solung festival showcases rich customs and faiths of the northeast region.

"Adi means original and to my mind that means the original inhabitants of Northeastern region. So, that way they have been a rich community contributing to the life, culture, literature, traditions, customs and faith of the Northeast region," he said.

The Governor also released the Solung souvenir 'Diigok Roli' and Adi tribe audio albums, besides distributing prizes.

Celebration of festivals plays an important role in promoting the cultural legacy of the indigenous communities besides fostering a spirit of unity among the people.
