Spanish golfer Miguel Angel Jimenez has taken the lead on the opening day of the KLM Open in the Netherlands on Thursday with a 6-under 64.

Jimenez, who won the tournament nearly two decades ago in 1994, took advantage of the relatively favourable conditions to score two bogeys and eight birdies, which gave him the outright lead at the Kennemer Golf and Country Club.

According to Sport24, the oldest player at the age of 49, Jimenez said that he would like to add another Spanish name to the trophy with a win on Sunday after former world No.1 Seve Ballesteros, who had his first European Tour win at KLM in 1976 and Jose Maria Olazabal, who won the tournament in 1989.

The report mentioned that Australia's Robert Allenby and Scotsman Gary Orr were among a group of six players one back on 5-under on the Dutch North Sea coast.
